Good sheet music/tab combo with backing tracks,

This review is from: Stevie Ray Vaughan: Guitar Play-Along Volume 49 (Hal Leonard Guitar Play-Along) (Paperback)
This Leonard Guitar Play-Along book was done very well. The music and tab is accurate, it provides a disc with 2 tracks for each song(one with all instruments and one without the guitar), and a program that will allow you to adjust the tempo the tracks play at.

My low rating is only for the Kindle version. The book/cd seems very good.
This was my first trial of a music book on Kindle for iPad. I just don't like the way it's organized and how the music tab and notation shows up. For myself, I find that it's much easier to maneuver through an actual book and also have the options to make notes, scan or copy sections for students, etc. While I love Kindle books, I definitely won't be purchasing any more music books for my iPad Kindle. That being said, if you own an iPad you may want to give it a try and see how it works for you. Additionally, there was a missing audio track, and two others that were in the wrong place. I don't know if that's the case with the book/cd or just an error in formatting for the Kindle.

I have to say I wasn't expecting the tablature or backing tracks to be that great because the book doesn't say recorded version on it. But I have been very pleasantly surprised! The tab is truly excellent. The backing music is just like having studio musicians for your own personal practice. Yeah its not going to sound 100% like double trouble. Its not the same musicians its not the exact same musicians, amps, pedals, or SRVs fixation with the perfect tone. But its pretty darn close.
Even the guitar lead is technically played very well. Of course its not actually SRV; lacks the tone, the heavy string sound, his specific articulation etc. But again its pretty darn close. The backing tracks and full (with guitar) tracks start out with a click track which is cool because that's most people record lead guitar anyway. But the "Amazing Slowdowner PA" software is awesome. I wish I had had it years ago. It allows you to take any track on any cd and slow it down or speed it up considerably without altering the tone. You can also change the tone as well if you want to. This slowdown feature is invaluable for unpacking some of SRV's amazingly fast and intricate licks. It has 50% 70% 80% 90% 100% and 125% settings. This is awesome because you can start out going as slow as possible and then gradually increase the speed. I wish technology like this had been available when I was first learning guitar years ago! I wish the software would allow you to clip down the song into little riffs or licks and then set it on repeat. Apparently the full version ( paid) version of the software from Roni Music will allow you to slow down any cd or mp3, and clip the riffs. Its pretty steep at $49.99 but I think I might spring for it. But seriously this software is awesome and supremely useful for someone getting used to playing in time with other musicians. And it sort of does the job of a teacher allowing you to have the licks slowed down and played for you like my guitar teacher does!

This book and CD are a great tool to play the SRV tunes that you love.
The note for note transcriptions and the ability to slow down the demo version to a speed that you can play a section until you can get it up to speed............... AWESOME!!!!! Then, once you have it down you can play the CD through any pa system and play along with the band. Don't think about it just buy it, you won't be disappointed ..

Well documented songbook. There were a couple of other songs I would have preferred, but it has some of the ones I really wanted. Very well documented.

The book and CD were OK, but fell short of what I expected. Somehow the music just didn't sound like his recordings.
