I own and enjoy every SRV media offering, CDs and DVDs, and this latest offering was very satisfying. Yes, it was out many years ago on VHS, but this has been embellished.

You get the standard videos that were on the VHS version, plus...

Three songs from Stevie's "Unplugged" sessions. Previous to this, I was only able to find "Pride and joy" on an MTV compilation CD from "Unplugged". That song is here in both sight and sound, but the two instrumentals, "Rude mood" and "Testify" are on another level. Clapton was said to have made the "unplugged" series take off, but his set had no equal to what SRV does here. No backing band, no rhythm section, no electronic cheating, just a guy on a chair with an acoustic guitar, almost in a trance with a left hand that flies with precision and speed that almost made me want to smash my own guitar for my lack of skills. The price of this DVD would be worth it for just these three songs if you are a fan of the guitar.

Additionally, there are a couple of songs from the Vaughan Brothers CD, as well as a mini (very mini) documentary of the making of the album which has some nice candid scenes of the two Vaughans joking, playing and reminiscing.

And there is a video for "Little Wing", which could be seen (sort of) on SRV's "Live from Austin, Texas" DVD. This version has some vocal overdubbing from some old blues players talking about the guitar. I use to see this version on a video jukebox back in the day, but have never seen it offered to the public until now.

If you like Stevie Ray Vaughan, this is a no brainer.

I thoroughly enjoy Stevie Ray Vaughan as much as any fan, so I can refer you with experience that this PRIDE AND JOY DVD is best left for purchase until after you have all three of his vastly superior live concert DVDs!

These mostly low budget, mostly primitive videos are not a very good representation of Stevie Ray Vaughan, or why he was popular. In fact, it is a wonder that he was so popular DESPITE how bad some of these videos are. I had never seen most of these videos until purchasing this DVD in 2007, but I don't feel like I missed out on anything on this DVD, and I am kind of embarrassed to show this DVD to anybody who doesn't already know how great and cool Stevie Ray was on his live DVDs.

It is much better to buy any of his three live concert DVDs, if you want to see what Stevie Ray Vaughan was all about, and why he was so popular, despite never having much in the way of MTV music videos to promote him.

On this PRIDE AND JOY DVD, the video for "Cold Shot" has an overweight girlfriend with a front tooth missing, constantly putting Stevie into the hospital over his love of guitars overshadowing his love for her. Is it funny or cheesey?

The video for "Superstition" has Stevie, his band, and stagehands, breaking all kinds of bad luck activities, like walking under a ladder, etc., while a black cat stalks the video. Is it funny or cheesey?

When you think of Stevie Ray Vaughan, do you think of funny and cheesey or do you think of a serious guitar bluesman? That's my point!

"Change It" is fairly decent and serious, but "The House Is Rocking" tries too hard to show Stevie as a frat party band, more like Blink 182 than the serious blues guitarist that Stevie Ray Vaughan was.

The best clips are Stevie doing three songs on the old MTV UNPLUGGED show, and a short interview piece with Stevie and his brother while recording the album FAMILY STYLE. Family Style

Missing is the MTV appearance of Stevie Ray performing "Superstition," live, with the original artist Stevie Wonder, with backing vocals by Salt-n-Pepa!

I would suggest that before you buy this, you buy any of his far superior, live concert DVDs, if you want the best buy for your money. Leave this PRIDE AND JOY DVD for last.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND DOUBLE TROUBLE: LIVE AT MONTREUX 1982 & 1985 is probably the best DVD to get, since it includes the famous concert performance of 1982, when they were starving artists and without ever having a recording contract, which got Stevie discovered by David Bowie, (and more importantly led to his meeting Jackson Browne, who would let Stevie record his first album for free at Browne's studio). You also get a second, even better, Montreux concert from 1985, after they had established themselves as serious and successful musicians in the recording industry. Both shows are great! STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN LIVE FROM AUSTIN, TEXAS is another great DVD, featuring two different shows, years apart yet at the same venue. This time it is from the 1980's PBS series that featured different artists every week. This DVD gives you the two times that Stevie Ray was the featured artist of the week. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN: LIVE AT THE EL MACAMBO is an intense, smoking concert, and maybe the single best show of all three DVDs, but you only get the one concert. It is still just as good of a purchase as the AUSTIN or MONTREUX live DVDs. Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Live at the El Mocambo 1983

I had this on VHS about 15 years ago.I have searched in vain for it on DVD, and now it has finally been released. This is a collection of SRV's, MTV videos, from the 80's and includes Cold Shot, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Texas Flood, and many others. A must for any fans of this great Texas blues rocker.

I actually like the cheesy videos. "Superstition" is pretty good, "Cold Shot" is hilarious for many reasons, and "Little Wing" is a really cool look at some old footage of SRV and the musicians who inspired him, not to mention the best remake of one of the greatest songs of all time.

I also really like the MTV Unplugged performances, although it is with this footage that I have my primary complaint. Before and after each song, Stevie is talking to the crowd. I would love to hear what he has to say, but the DVD cuts immediately to the next song. Why not include the entire session? As a huge SRV fan, I would have loved to see him interact with his audience in such an intimate setting. I felt ripped off that they didn't include this. Otherwise, it is a great DVD that true fans would love.

It is hard to give a Stevie Ray Vaughan DVD anything less than five stars, but the fact is that most music videos often distract from the song itself with corny, cheesy, or even vomit-provoking images and plots. This collection of SRV music videos was originally released on VHS shortly after his death, but the newly added footage in this DVD makes this a worthy purchase for fans.

While none of the videos here are terrible, any fan of Stevie Ray knows that a music video cannot compare to seeing the man tear it up on stage in a real concert setting. The videos for "Cold Shot" and "Superstition" are fairly humorous and entertaining, and "Little Wing" is a nice little tribute to Stevie's memory. The rest of the videos here are pretty average, and "Good Texan" is a real disappointment that should have never been included in the DVD. It is presented as basically a Jimmie Vaughan solo performance without a single glimpse of Stevie Ray at all!

Vaughan's MTV appearance only months before his death in August 1990 gives us a rare glimpse of his lightning quick acoustic guitar playing and it's a really nice addition to the DVD. Also included is a nice segment of Stevie and brother Jimmie being interviewed and jamming together during the making of their album Family Style. Interviews and behind the scenes material of SRV has never been available on video before, so this footage is definitely a treat.

I recently discovered a truly priceless SRV performance on YouTube that is far better than anything here and was sadly LEFT OFF this DVD! Stevie Ray and the blind guitarist Jeff Healey appeared on stage together and tore the house down with a great version of "Look at little sister" that will blow you away! Jeff Healey stands up and rips into a SCORCHING solo that would have blown most guitarists right off the stage! Stevie immediately unleashes his own solo that matches the same blistering intensity of Healey's solo and the audience gives them a standing ovation at the end as Stevie and Jeff exchange hugs. This is one of the greatest SRV performances I've ever seen and it's even better than the MTV Unplugged performance featured here. Anyone lucky enough to have seen that performance has to be shaking their head wondering WHY it was not included on this DVD!

To be very clear, this DVD is a compilation of all SRV's TV spots. The music videos included are from the very beginning of music videos, and that being said they are mostly pretty poor quality, have annoying story-lines being played overtop the music. Other content includes TV ads for his albums, some compilation videos, and some live songs from MTV.

There is definately value in this DVD, but not as much as other SRV DVDs. Specifically there are some great features that weren't present on the original VHS release, such as the Little Wing compilation which is a collage of SRV events and other musicians commentary overtop of SRV's version of Little Wing. His unplugged videos also shine, however the quality is lesser than I had hoped (they sound good, they're just grainy and poorly lit).

Overall this DVD is a great item to add to an existing collection as it has some gems intermingled with some of the not-so-good stuff. However if you're looking for your first or second SRV video then you really should consider Live at El Macombo, Live at Montreaux, or Live from Austin Texas. All three are amazing representations of how SRV really played, and by seeing his unrelenting passion on stage you can get a surprising insight into who he was.

Then you get some MTV unplugged performances and some Stevie Ray TV commericals. Then "Tick Tock" with JImmy Vaughan, "Good Texan", and The Vaughan Brothers.

I'm a big Stevie Ray fan,
And I do love this DVD. But it's missing one key video--Pride and Joy. It was a historical video considering it was the first blues video ever shown on MTV.
I also would've liked to see on there the video of Stevie Ray and Joe Satriani (another one of my favorite guitarist). Another good video is Dick Dale and Stevie doing Pipeline. These videos are keys to me. Hopefully they will come up some time in another DVD.

This DVD set from the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan has something for everyone. The bulk of the DVD consists of commercially released videos of varying qualities. While some of the videos are fairly primitive (at least the music's great,) some of them are absolute standouts. My personal favorite is the video for "Superstition" which features SRV and the band running into every conceivable kind of double trouble with the help of a black cat. The best part of the video is the very ending when you hear an offstage voice calling the nefarious feline to Stevie. The punch line is one of the best sight gags in music video history.

There is video from several sources such as television commercials for "Couldn't Stand the Weather" and "Soul to Soul," and two Vaughan Brothers videos which really feature Jimmie Vaughan; while it was a nice bonus, they aren't highlights. There is also a brief interview session with Jimmie and SRV that is interesting and will be eagerly watched by fans.

By far the highlight of the DVD for me, though, is the three tracks taken from the SRV episode of "MTV Unplugged." While Clapton's "Unplugged" performance is widely heralded as the premier event of the series (and I do like it) the SRV gig is a step above that in my opinion. I would have liked this DVD to have included the entire special, but at least we get these three tracks. SRV's moves on "Rude Mood" and "Testify" are stunning, and fans will be sure to watch them with awe again and again. (Warning: if you own a guitar, they will make you feel very inadequate.) It would have been nice to get a little more of the banter from SRV with the crowd, but I'm not complaining: the chance to see this performance (with a 12-string, no less!) makes owning this DVD not only worthwhile, but a must for any SRV fan!

Hallelujah! It's about time Stevie's videos were released on DVD! This set contains some great bonus material as well. My VHS tape was getting pretty worn out.
I met Stevie back in 1984 and I must say, he was the nicest guy and has been greatly missed.
This DVD is essential for any Stevie Ray fan!
