this will take some getting used to. what can compare to sugar when you're not allowed to have it. i baked a cheesecake with this and used only 1.5 teaspoons! the cheesecake was great!
my problem is my morning decaf...i am so used to sweet coffee! i used to put 3 equals or splendas in my cup..well until i noticed that i was forgetting things!!! my memory took a vacation so to speak on the equal and i believe the same for the slenda. so ok i use about 1/2 teaspoon of stevita in my coffee, and i get a sweetness that is very noticable. i no longer use equal or splenda and i don't get that brain fade anymore!!! this is really a great product! it will also teach you to steer away from that icky sweet taste we love so much which is'nt good for us anyway! it will not spike your insulin as well. i use the 16 ounce bulk canister..but the 2000 packets is a great deal too! update: let me save you money...i purchased the stevita herb in its natural state....it tastes nasty! i thought i would be slick and make liquid out of the herb..it is a brownish green powdered herb and now i have like 5 lbs of it and there is no way i am going to ever use it! yuck! this stevita sold in the 16 oz canister is the best you can get as far as taste! stick with it..it is great!

NATURAL AND SWEET!!,

I used to have the actual Stevia plant, but my dog kept eating it because of the sweet taste!! So, I decided to try this particular brand because of the rave review---I am so glad I did!! This is an excellent substitute in cooking, especially for family members who are diabetic!!
I added this to a pie recipe and the taste did not change. This is a great product. BE CAREFUL, THIS STUFF IS SWEET!! I dipped the tip of a toothpick in the Stevia, TWICE, and my mother told me I made her coffee TOO sweet!! Everyone's tastebuds are different. You have to try a very small amount to get the desired taste for yourself. If you put a bit on your tongue, you may or may not have an aftertaste, but in foods or drinks, there are none. This 16 oz. jar will go a long way. I am going to purchase some Stevia cookbooks and try out their recipes. I even searched the Internet and found no adverse effects of Stevia on humans reported. It was such a big hit, I have had to order more for family members!! Be Blessed.

I usualy buy my Stevia in the health food store in pre measured packets for my coffee. I bought this to use for cooking and baking. I ran out of the pre measured Stevia and had to use this. Oh my i used a bit to much the first time. you need to use such a tiny bit to get a sweet taste. I love stevia. then why did i give this product 4 stars. Stevita has natural filler derived from corn, also found in melons, pears etc == Stevia = that i normally buy has no fillers. This product has an after taste that Sevia doesnt have. This product may be perfect in cooking and baking so it got 4 stars. but i dont like it in my coffee. not something i want to use everyday.

I've been using Stevia for about 6 months now. One of the reviewers said she can't stand the taste in her tea.. I didn't like this product the first couple of times I tried it, either, but then after about a month of not using it, I tried using LESS of it in my coffee.. That did the trick. I use it every morning now and love it. It's so much better for you than Equal or Splenda, which give my husband and I both horrible headaches and other side affects.. Stevia has no side affects! Try it. Great for diabetics!!
UPDATE: It's been 1 1/2 years and I'm still using this product daily. I noticed a lot of posters aren't sure how to use it correctly. I've found this forumula to work when it comes to baking. If you use pure stevia, 1/16 tsp equals 2 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp equals one cup of sugar... pure stevia is really strong.. A little goes a long way.. I don't use it in coffee, tea, etc because it's just too strong, but it's great for baking.. Spoonable stevia is not as sweet, 1/2 tsp equals 2 tsp of sugar and 12 tsp equals one cup of sugar.. This will vary a little according to your tastebuds, so do taste tests and write down what works for you for reference. I put maybe 1/4 tsp in my coffee in the morning. I love sweet tea, but not the empty calories.. Stevia does not dissolve well in cold liquid, so I take a level spoonful (I use the large spoons that come with silverware sets)and I dissolve the stevia in a about 1/4 cup of very hot water, then add it to my container of sun tea.. Stir it around after you pour it into your tea container and you'll have great sweet tea without the calories. Course, everyone will have to find the perfect amount to add according to their taste buds, but dissolving the spoonable stevia in hot water before adding it to your container of tea will give you a great way of having sweet tea in the fridge and ready to drink.

This is an amazing product. A little goes a long way. A great alternative to sugar. Actually, I rarely use sugar anymore. I use this in my sweet tea--I am a gallon-a-day drinker! Love Love Love It!

I cannot use Equal because it gives me a headache and I've noticed lately that if I use too much Splenda I get a funny feeling in my sinuses, so I decided to try Stevia. I had read about it several months ago as a healthy alternative to other artificial sweeteners, but I was hard to find because the government was trying to regulate it somehow.
To date, I've tried Stevia in the Raw, which I like, Truvia, which is okay but not as sweet as the Stevia in the Raw, and Stevita Spoonable. The Stevita Spoonable is EXTREMELY strong and I cannot find an equal measures chart for it but as far as I can tell I use about 1/4 of a teaspoon for every 2 teaspoons of conventional sweetener (or 1 packet). I use it in tea with milk and love it! I haven't tried any baking or cooking with it yet. This stuff is a bit pricey, but considering how little you need it's probably not too bad. I haven't yet figured out the cost per serving, but it's probably comparable with the packets of other artificial sweeteners.

I bought this from Amazon over a year ago, and it seemed to last forever. I only use it to sweeten my tea in the morning (only takes 1/8 teaspoon or so), not in cooking. I plan to try that next, but don't look forward to experimenting with amounts. I bought Trader Joe's stevia product a month ago, and am sorry I did. It takes as much powder as sugar to sweeten anything. Then I read the ingredient list and found that it is mostly lactose, so that would explain it. I haven't tried any other brand and don't intend to now.
UPDATE. I recieved the new product and I would lower my rating if I could. The new version takes at least twice as much to give the same amount of sweetening as the original. Upon reading the ingredient list, I discovered why. The old version contained a neutral filler derived from grapfruit seeds (according to the label), so all the sweetening came from Stevia. The new version contains a sugar alcohol which in itself is a sugar substitute. I susptect that the new product is mostly this sugar alcohol as it is probably cheaper than Stevia and would account for my having to use over twice as much to get the same sweetening power. I wouldn't give ot over three stars now.

The taste is very good, but an aftertaste does occur. kinda like saccharin though not as obnoxious.
my only disappointment is that for the size of the jar (1 lb) it gets used up faster than I had anticipated. therefore a somewhat expensive solution to the sugar question. I imagine that now that Stevia is legal and being produced by more manufacturers it will come down in price (lets hope) If not, maybe start growing it in your backyard?

The best of the stevia products I have found. Nice sweetness, no aftertaste. Can be used for baking also, just use about a quarter or less of what you would use in sugar.

I find this OK for my coffee. More earth friendly and pocketbook friendly than the packets. I like Splenda but it is getting such a bad rap that I switched to Stevia.
