Crimson Territory,

This review is from: Stick Man (Audio CD)
"Stickman" is an excellent album that bookends the polished "Resonator" quite well -- with its more jam based approach and phenomenal bass playing. Moreover, one cannot help but compare it to latter Crimson albums -- many sources point to the drummer Pat Mastelotto -- yet I feel that is only partial for the music features a dynamic, proto sound that easily falls into Crimson territory, and that is not a complaint. Furthermore, it is astounding what the drum/bass duo accomplishes when all havoc breaks loose with their instruments, which is every track. Highly Recommended.

Very cool.,

It's about time Tony Levin treated us to this! An album of unabashed Stick playing that just feels good and never bores the listener with chops shredding or "clever" renditions of tunes that were never intended for this instrument. Tony is considered a pioneer for this reason, and still remains one of the most original bass players out there.

Well, I guess I expected a lot more from this great bassist and Stick player. I have only listened to it once and I do not know if I will even give it another. Not up to his usual quality efforts. But, it is sort of cool if you groove on flatted 5ths and are not burned out on them.
