Editorial Reviews

Review

"A stirring tale, exquisitely told." -- Booklist

From the Publisher

Smitten with Muir's compelling story, a team of experts was assembled to create this unique audio production. With a deft hand, the team that brought the first environmental radio drama to the BBC (Producer Mara Purl, Foley artist David L. Krebs, composer Marilyn Harris and engineer Bill Berkuta) are joined by NPR announcer and famed actor Lee Salisbury. The project is further enhanced by the visual artistry of Dave Zaboski best known for his animation work at Disney, Warner Brothers and Sony Pictures. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story! Wonderful reading!, April 24, 1999

This review is from: Stickeen (Audio CD)
Every doglover will be swept away by this captivating audiobook of John Muir's adventure with STICKEEN. I had never known the story before I listened to the tape, and I was completely captivated by the bravery and heart of STICKEEN - and by the voice of Lee Salisbury. John Muir's words capture the innate goodness of EVERY dog - and somehow explains why we can't help but love them so!! I bought 5 copies to send to my dog loving friends, and I'm sure I'll be buying more! This is a story you'll want to share with everyone who loves animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muir's classic story is still a fascinating adventure!, December 23, 1995
By A Customer
This review is from: Stickeen (Paperback)
This adventure story, set on the top of an Alaskan glacier, is great reading just for the adventure. But in the telling, Muir shows us that our "horizontal brothers" are not merely intelligent, but share many of the emotions, fears, and joys that we have. Incidentally, this book is in the public domain, and a copy can be found on the Web at the following URL: http://www.sierraclub.org/history/muir/stickeen.html For more writings by John Muir, visit the WWW John Muir Exhibit: http://ice.ucdavis.edu/John_Muir/

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Stickeen (Paperback)
I first met Stickeen by reading an exerpt on a Pomeranian calendar. I immediately went to Amazon to get the book. It is a thrilling and emotional testamony by John Muir of his most memorable day on a glacier with a brave little dog. It is a story you just can't put down and by the end you love and admire Stickeen as much as Muir. I did some research and found that John Muir worked on this story for decades perfecting every word. He considered it his most important work because it showed the dog Stickeen as an emotional and thinking being therefore requiring mankind to consider how we treat our canine companions.
