A wake up call.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sticks & Stones [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this film on TV the other night and it was the best film i've EVER seen! I am only 13 and was a bully but this movie made me think what it's like to be on the other side. I would actuly advise this to be viewed by problem children because there is a VERY srtong message that what you do to other people can affect what they feel, how they treat others and how badly it can affect their future. I all ways knew that what I was doing was wrong but never realised how wrong until I saw this. It's great and should NOT be banned.

One of the best!!,

I taped 'Sticks and Stones' when it first came on TV and I still have to say that this is one of the best movies I've seen for ages. The movie is brimming with emotions, teenage angst and is bound to bring back memories if you've been bullied but it only goes to show that sometimes, the bullies are miserable people themselves and there's a reason behind their actions. I'm 16 but I think the movie is suitable for everyone because there are certain aspects we can relate to, regardless of our age. Joey (Justin Isfeld), Book (Max Goldblatt) and Mouth (Chauncey Leopardi) were very convincing as the bullied kids. Some scenes are quite angsty and there *is* swearing but it's really not that bad! The music was cool, and it's a breath of fresh air to watch a movie that's centered on the lives of children rather than adults. When I'd finished watching this movie, I actually felt something for the characters and empathised with them, which is why I'd definitely recommend it.

A must see by parents of teens,

As the mother of two young teenage boys, this was an extremely hard movie for me to watch because the content is so real. That these things could and do really happen hurt me. It was a good opportunity though to talk with my boys and get their reactions on what they could do if placed in these situations. It was an excellent tool for being able to bring up violence and friendship discussions.

Every kid should be made to watch this movie.,

I know I'm about 10 years too late, but some of the other comments are brimming with naivety and I feel that it's exactly that type of attitude toward parenting that is responsible for the problem that this film emphasizes. This movie was obviously not made to glorify guns or violence or anything of the like, but to put a spotlight on the very real problem of school aged bullying and it's effect on the victims. I was only 10 or 11 when I first saw this movie; my mom stopped at a video store on her way home from work one night and picked it up. It really hit home for me when I watched it because I identified so closely with some of the characters. I was picked on alot as a kid and it only got worse as I went through middle school and high school. Looking back on it as an adult some of the things that were said and done to me don't seem like they were really a big deal, but it's different when you're a kid. You don't yet completely realize that there is a world beyond the school you attend and the neighborhood you grow up in, and spending one third of every day for 12 years in an environment where you are constantly being torn down by your peers can destroy you, mentally and emotionally. Petty issues such as language aside, every child over the age of nine or ten needs to see this movie. It will shock them as much as it will shock their parents, but in a completely different way. I am almost 23 years old now and to this day I will swear up and down that I am a better person for seeing this. To all parents: Do your a kid a favor and stop the destructive habits before they start. This movie would be a perfect place to begin. Expect to be offended if you're the sheltering type, but also keep in mind that your children are going to be facing much larger issues than foul language. Sometimes it's good to give them a taste of what reality is like from multiple view points; when it comes down to it, you won't always be there to cover their eyes and tell them that everything will be alright.

a must see movie,

I bought this movie only after i read the reviews in this section. I have to admit this movie was the best i have seen in a very long time. The story had something for everyone. The bullies Can see how their actions affect other people. The adults can see what happens when they put their work before their families. The kids see what happens when they work together to solve a problem. And if the older siblings let their younger siblings alone there would be less violence. This movie shows all the angles from everyone's perspective. The bully who he himself is abused at home. The older kids who push the younger ones away. And the adults who are to busy to notice that their kids. Are carrying a gun luckally it turns out for the best in the end.

i have just rented this movie, and just keep watching it. it shows about the good friendship of joey(justin isfeld),who is very hot, and that the pain of peoplehurtng the people who you love provoke violence in yourself. the language was a bit weir, but every kid i know really talks like that, so its not weird to me. i hope you love this movie.

This was a great movie.,

This, to me as a teenager, was a great movie although I realize that many of the adults who reviewed the movie didn't feel the same. To me, I feel that this is because the movie focused on teenage situations and it's not easy for adults to remember what it's like to be bullied and how you feel. But, the movie reflects to teenagers and despite the violence, in the end it does show that you don't have to be violent to solve your problems. And for some kids, this movie could be a wake-up call. I admit that the language was a little worse than what it should have been, but that doesn't change the movie. It was filled with great actors and actresses and focuses on friendship and with the every-day tough problems that teenagers face. It also shows how they feel that they should act when everything fails to solve their problem. To me, it was great and I feel that every teen should see it to remind them that violence isn't the way to go.

A WONDERFULL MOVIE,

I've been renting this movie over and over for the last couple of months and I still love it! I understand why parents might think it sends the wrong message, but maybe that's just because they don't understand the affect this movie has on the teens who watch it. Maybe the language and violence are a little extreme... but for teens these days it is so easy to relate to. We all know people to talk like that and face the same situations sometime during their teenage years (and NO.. I'm not just supporting the movie because Justin Isfeld is hot... even though he is) I think that, if interpreted right, it sends a positive message... that violence is not the answer. The charactors were fun and easy to relate to.. I suggest you rent it :)

Parents strongly cautioned!,

I strongly caution parents to watch this film first, then decide if you want your children to see it. I also thought like some other viewers this was a family friendly film. It was NOT what we thought. My sons are 12 & 13. I almost turned it off because the language was horrible but decided to let it run and use it as a teaching tool. There are bullying scenes that are so strong in this movie it was hard as a parent to watch. It was however a very big eye opener to my sons on how life can be for some kids. We talked throughout the movie about "how would they handle each situation" and turned it into a positive experience. This movie is GRAPHIC in teen violence, situations and language, parents are strongly cautioned to view first.

This movie is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It was sad, but it's good because it shows kids (& anyone) how it feels when you are bullied. This was just a movie, but this really happens to kids everywhere around the world. I would reccomend this movie to anyone. Great movie.
