5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome Book
This book was great. It wasn't anything like I thought it would be. It is about a srong, smart girl that has the perfect boyfriend and the perfect friend. But everything starts to change, she thinks her friend is stealing and lying, her boyfriend is pushing for sex. She starts to doubt herself. And she can't seem to relax, even though she got into Harvard. You have to...

I kept waiting for the bad, awful thing that happens to her after she has one drink and am still waiting. This book is a teen whine-fest about school, friends, and boyfriends. The entire book is a setup to the "bad thing" that supposedly happens..and then it actually doesn't happen. 5.0 out of 5 stars Sticky Fingers, August 23, 2005

I've read some of Niki Burnham's other books, but this one was by far the best. It has everything a good story should have. The characters were relatable and the plot kept me guessing. I recommend this book to mature 13 and up, because the book dealt alot with the pressures that high schoolers experience. I read this book in a few hrs. This novel is great- so definitely read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, December 23, 2006
This review is from: Sticky Fingers (Paperback)
Jenna Kassarian strives to have everything in her life exactly how she wants it--perfect. She has the perfect boyfriend, the perfect friend, and the perfect grades that got her into the top college of her choice. Jenna enjoys working hard because, in the end, it actually pays off. Now that everything seems to be going her way, and it's her last year of high school, all she wants to do, well, actually all her boyfriend wants her to do, is relax and enjoy life. Unfortunately for Jenna, relaxing just isn't in her vocabulary.

So now Jenna is trying her best to let go and have fun. That's not at all possible if what she has worked for has started to change. Her best friend is beginning to act weird and her boyfriend is pressuring her even more for their "first time". Along with that, it seems like her best friend is keeping something from her, something that just might have to do with Jenna's boyfriend.

But all Jenna needs to do is fix the problems around her. Change everything back to the way things were before. Easy, right? Well, when Jenna finally decides to let loose for once, things start to tumble around her and the people that she thought she knew turn out to be her downfall.

Different from all her other works, Niki Burnham's novel STICKY FINGERS has a message that the reader won't know about until the very end. STICKY FINGERS is a novel that everyone should read and take into consideration. Even though the novel is fictional, the ending is the truth and could happen to anyone.

The entire book is a setup to the "bad thing" that supposedly happens..and then it actually doesn't happen. This is kind of of like watching the movie Titanic, except the officers are able to avert disaster, learn an important lesson, and everyone goes home happy. Not impressed. I know it's a teen book, but I would have enjoyed this more if the girl's life had been ruined and we get to read about how she actually deals with it.

This book was not at all what I was expecting, and that's a good thing. I figured it would be the pretty cliched deal about a heroine whose on track for great things and then decides to start partying and chucks it all away. Jenna, and Niki Burnham, really surprised me.

Jenna was a pretty consistent character in the story. She stays strong, she stays on track, despite the fact that her friends are the ones self-destructing around her. She does make a couple bad choices, but on the whole, she stays pretty true to who she really is...working toward her Harvard goal and staying pretty focused. She does spend a great deal of her time angsting over what her friends are up to, but this was a pretty realistic reaction to some of the things going on around her. The fact that she's able to power through and continue speaks well of her character.

This is one of those stories that if I said too much more I might give away something really important. I will just add that when "the big event" happens later in the book, I was completely thrown. Boy, did I never see that one coming. It was the furthest thing from my mind as being a possibility. It wasn't until it happened, and I thought back over the events leading up to it, that I realized how well the author had set us up for this event to occur. I was shocked, but not surprised. Great job, Niki Burnham!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is up for a more serious read about some real issues that teens face, both on a daily basis, and on a not so common basis. Despite the fact that "the big event" was inexcusable, you could definitely see the "villain's" point of view and see where "the villain" would think their actions to be explainable. To me, that's the best type of villain...the kind where you hate their actions, but at the same time, you can understand how they might think they didn't do anything wrong.

A very good read... well worth the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely A Book You Shouldn't Pass Up Reading, January 5, 2010
By
This review is from: Sticky Fingers (Paperback)
Okay so at first I have to admit that the reviews on this book made me think twice before I started reading it- The reviews about how the book is 'too long', 'could've been shortened down', 'story is too long and slow', those reviews. Also, when I started reading the first few pages of the book, I thought "Oh this is just another YA novel about a highschool senior". Oh, was I wrong. I really LOVED this touching, wonderful story. This book is about a girl named Jenna, who is a senior in highschool about to go to college at Harvard. She has the perfect boyfriend, Scott that she's been dating for about a year. Unlike most highschool girls, Jenna has decided that her and Scott should take things slow. Guys being guys, he listens to what she has to say, but he still tries really hard to pressure her into having sex. I'm not going to give away what happens in the book that makes it so different from any other story I've read- but something very unexpected happens to Jenna.

Besides the whole situation in the story with Jenna and her boyfriend, her life-long bestfriend Courtney also plays a very good role in this book. Jenna is concerned with her bestfriend , Courtney who starts losing all kinds of weight and who has developed an unexpected stealing problem. But because Courtney can't watch out for herself doesn't mean she fails to watchout for Jenna before and when the very "Unexpected event" happens in this book.

This is NOT "Just another" novel about a teen girl, falling in love, has the perfect boyfriend and friend, etc. It may seem like that at first, but this novel is actually very touching and has a very unexpected twist to it at the end. This book reveals some of the things that really go on in teen's lives- whether they have control over it or not. I loved everything about this book, especially the fact that the character Jenna is a different girl, who has a good head on her shoulders and has her mind set in the right direction.I definitely recommend reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars How Sticky Are Your Fingers?, July 8, 2006
This review is from: Sticky Fingers (Paperback)
This book was ok. I liked the book but did not love it. The begining of the book was very slow but picked up towards the middle. The ending of this book was very good and very surprising! It had a very good ending twist. I love how it dealt with real issues that many people face everyday. Niki Burnham did a great job of writing about Jenna's life. I enjoyed this book but it took me a while to get through it because of the slow start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular, yet Explicit, February 22, 2007
This review is from: Sticky Fingers (Paperback)
This book is definitely a great book for older teenagers, or young adults who want to be entertained and read a nice romance novel, however they should be warned, or their parents, that there are explicit descriptions of sexual activities and sexual inuendos.
