Note: The product image is not quite right as it shows another model than the 36.

I installed a Tempra 36 in a new application (not a replacement). It does everything it says it does and without taking up a huge space. It was easy to install and easy to use. The best part of this product is the endless hot water at a preset temperature.

You MUST review the flow rates and temperature rise charts to be sure it is adequate for your application. If you have colder water or want more water for your shower, the unit may only be able to keep up with one, not two or more people taking a shower at the same time. There are no electric units on the market that are as powerful as the propane ones, so make sure you've done your homework before installing.

The unit WILL draw its rated power (36kw) if you ask it to, so make sure you have enough power. It takes THREE 60 amp breaker PAIRS, which is a LOT of panel space. Check this also before installing.

In operation the thing works flawlessly and does exactly what it says in the manual. The one control, temperature set, is trivial to use. I figure the cost to run it is about $4.32/hr at our rate of about 12 cents/kwh. That's assuming of course you're running it at full draw. How can you beat that? Your own hot spring, virtually, for under $5/hr.

I think I'm in for years of trouble free hot water.

Our old hot water heater corroded and sprung a leak, so we had to buy something to replace it. The Tempra 36 we bought is working wonderfully. It took some time (electric company was slow) to upgrade the electrical panel to support the Tempra 36, but we are adding on to our home in the next couple of years anyway. We were going to have to upgrade the electrical panel to add on to our home. We can run both of our showers at the same time along with a sink and still get hot water as hot as we can stand it. We love the dial on the front of the unit that allows us to adjust the temperature in seconds. It takes up NO SPACE to speak of, and we were able to mount it to the wall and hook the plumbing up easily ourselves. We let the electrician hook up the power to the unit. We now store tools in the space where the hot water heater was.

We expect to save about $25 a month over the old 50 gal tank we had...we shall see!!

In remodeling my kitchen I found I needed to move my refrigerator to where my 50 gallon water heater sat, so I decided to go tankless.

I bought the Stiebel Eltron Tempra 36 from AMAZON (Compact Appliance) for a little over $700.00 (Great Price!), upgraded my home to 400 AMP service, mounted the Tempra 36 to a wall in my washroom, removed my existing water heater, plumbed all hot & cold water lines to/from the Tempra 36, ran three 35 foot lengths of 6 gauge wire (X2 hot + ground) from the Tempra 36 to my new breaker panel and connected with three 60 AMP two pole breakers.

I fired the beast up after ensuring I had no leaks and lo and behold, NEARLY SCALDING HOT WATER!! ONLY WHEN I WANT IT!!

I am a 100% do-it-your-selfer and believe me, this tankless water heater was simple to install and connect.

IT SHOULD PAY FOR ITSELF WITHIN ONE YEAR'S TIME!! I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!!

We bought a Bosch electric tankless water heater in 2008. It was the biggest one and we had our house wired just for this. By 2010, we could not take a hot shower. It would fluctuate between freezing and cool. We bought this Stiebel Eltron because of the great reviews and we are so glad we did. We have all the hot water that we could ever want.

We are on our second Tempra 36. Not because we had a problem with the first one, but because we had one in our house in Virginia and when we moved to Oklahoma and built a new house, it was the first thing we purchased. We have never had any problem with this tankless and recommend it to everyone we know. With four children, countless showers and loads of laundry, it has never let us down. If you're looking for a dependable tankless, this is it. Stiebel Eltron TEMPRA 36 Electronically Controlled Tankless Water HeaterStiebel Eltron TEMPRA36 Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater

I have (had) a Steibel Eltron Tempra 36. I installed it 2 years ago. It was correctly wired w/ 3 60-amp circuits, 6ga wire with ground.

Today, one of the circuit boards caught on fire. It was only by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ himself that it happened when my girl was in the basement putting laundy in the dryer. I kid you not. The unit literally went POP and ignited when she was standing next to it, while the unit was not in use (no hot water being generated by the unit).

As flames were shooting out of the unit, she was able to get a fire extinguisher and put the fire out by completely drenching the unit.

Steibel-Eltron will warrantee the unit, but frankly I'm hesitant to install such a unit again. If my girl wasn't home today, I would have come home today to no home whatsoever.

Unfortunately, I do not have NG available, as I live in the boonies. I may switch to a Bosch AE125 instead.

More detailed information regarding my use of the Tempra-36, and photos of the fire-damaged unit, can be viewed at ThisOldFarmHouse . blogspot . com
