The whole purpose of this Supper Club is for its five members to lose weight. As in real life, some are more successful than others, but they all keep trying. Librarian James Henry, new sheriff’s deputy Lucy Hanover, schoolteacher Lindy, postman Bennett, and pet guru Gillian have actually gained more fame from their joint sleuthing escapades than they have from their various diet attempts. In this fourth rollicking adventure, they are invited to be guest judges at the forty-seventh annual Hudsonville Hog Festival. They can’t resist the offer; they’ll get back to their diets after the barbecue. All goes well until one of the barbecue contestants is found dead, and one of the flab five is accused of the murder. As always, a few recipes are included in the story, some of them more diet-friendly than others. While many of the antics are hilarious, Stanley’s characters really do have depth, the plotting is well executed, and the series becomes better with each installment. --Judy Coon

More About the Author

A former Middle School English teacher, I've had a wide range of jobs ranging from catering to working the shirt press at a dry cleaner to being a part-time folk and outsider art dealer. I am most happy around books, food, animals, and antiques, so I combined all three of these things and became a writer of mysteries. Once again, J.B. Stanley gives us a fun visit with the Supper Club. "Stiffs and Swine" is the 4th book in the series and is just as delightful as the first three. The characters are old friends now and the new supporting characters add that extra zest to the mystery.

Not only is there a murder for the Flab Five to solve, there is also the continuing saga of James Henry's love life. Will it be Lucy or Murphy? This book also gives us more insight into the life of Gillian. The more I learn about the characters, the more I like them.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read, especially cozy mystery fans. This is just the book to read on a cool night, curled up on the couch with a nice hot cup of tea.

This is the fourth book in the Supper Club series. I love these books! The main characters, the Flab Five, are very interesting and diverse characters. In the latest installment the Flab Five are asked to be judges at a bar-b-q event. While there, a murder takes place, and one of the Flab Five is a suspect in the murder. They all ban together to help solve the murder and help their friend. The main characters are people that you can imagine meeting in everyday life, and the supporting characters add to the story. I would highly recommend this book and all the other books in the series.

The fourth in the Stiffs and Swine Supper Club Mysteries, J. B. Stanley has created a smooth, fun read as we follow the Flab Five through a maze of suspects as they track down a murderer. Mouth-watering recipes are peppered throughout this savory mystery. A great cozy novel.
