5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Album You've Never Heard Of..., November 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Still...Again (Audio CD)
One part Zappa, one part Beefheart, one part Camper Van Beethoven, one part Dead Milkman, and a whole lotta fun!

This sadly ignored and long forgotten classic by Bay Area favorites Spot 1019- one of those bands forever playing shows in the early '90s that sadly never found the door marked Opportunity- is one of the funniest, catchiest, cleverest, funkiest, and outright enjoyable albums of the 90's. Each song is essentially a barely three minute shot of adrenaline powered by a tight rhythm section, a talented yet eclectic guitarist, and a singer who not only sounds out-of-control on every song (relish the vocal tics on the opening "Five Meals from One Chicken"!), but sings lyrics that are either surreal, smart alecky, or frequently both. Over the course of the album, Santa Claus is crucified, aliens attempt to take over, Salvador Dali's watch melts, and most impressively, we get a song about the bacon! Think Zappa at his most verbose, or Dylan at his most ridiculous, and you get a sense of the tone of each song.

I bought this CD for $5 after a Spot 1010 show in the early 90's and more than 20 years later, it is still one of the most heavily rotated albums in my collection. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorites..., December 2, 2008

I also found this cassette tape in a bargain bin about 15+ years ago. It is easily one of my favorite albums I own...I even went back to buy it on CD later on because it became so worn with use. I'm not sure how I'd classify it...rock, punk, rockabilly, blues, countryish...it changes from song to song. The lyrics are so surreal, you have to love it. With an ode to Salvador Dali, who would expect anything less. To take some of the lyrics out of context doesn't hurt..."had a dream about the bacon" (Ringo), "Ed Asner negligee", "my watch is melting..." Dig it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Band You've Never Heard, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Still...Again (Audio CD)
I first encountered this item way back in 1993. It was in the bargain bin (with a big hole cut in it) and I liked the cover, so I bought it.

And it changed my life (Ok, not really, but close)

Spot 1019 (Pronounced Spot ten nineteen)provide a genre-crossing blend of rock, blues, almost punk, psychadelic, folk... I don't know what, but mostly just good rock and roll. Their lyircs are strange, but in a good way, and they stick in your head. The songs are well arranged and will keep you tappin your toes for sure. This album is a good intro to Spot 1019 and I think you will soon find yourself ready to buy the other albums.
