4.5 release from Thin Lizzy - We Miss Phil Lynott,
By bass boy "music fan" (Arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Still Dangerous: Live at the Tower Theater Philade (Audio CD)
This is a 4.5 star release from a 5-star band. This will please Lizzy fans for sure. I only wish Phil's bass was just a pinch louder in parts, and that the CD contained more than 11 tracks. Maybe that is all they played that night at the Tower Theatre, although surely by 1977, they were headlining (a year after "Jailbreak"), which would lead one to believe that more than 11 cuts were played by Phil and the boys that night.
The sound is pretty good, although you'll have to turn up your volume nob a bit on the stereo. This CD isn't overly compressed, which gives it an almost-analog vibe. I liked that. The cymbals don't hiss, but actually sound like real drum cymbals. Producer Glyn Johns (Faces, The Eagles, The Who) and Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham did a pretty good job remixing this release. Brian Robertson's guitar is down a bit in the mix, here and there, but it's never too distracting. Fans should pick this up now. The fact that it doesn't contain any overdubs (the CD claims) is another plus. I only wish it was longer, songwise ... but it's worth the ten buckeroos ....

Missing the rest of the show????,

Yes, it is disapointing that the rest of the show is missing which is at least 7 songs. [...] has had the full 17 songs posted for listening for quite some time. I was aware of this show awhile ago and listened to it on Wolfgangs site and was excited to hear this was being released but sad to see when it came out how edited it is. I am a huge LIZZY fan and bummed about missing almost half the show.

As a die hard Lizzy Fan, I can't believe that they botched up another release. The whole show is not included and it is a combination of two shows that they played at the Tower Theater in Philly. The whole show can be heard on Wolfganes Vault in it's entirely and uncut. Five songs are excluded from this release and should be on there. I love Thin Lizzy and can't believe that they ruined this cd by not having the whole show.

Whose hands were on the mixer?,

This became about the 5th Lizzy Live CD I own. (Yes, I even was crazy enought to get the "Still Life".) Here's what you get with this one:
* Great performances -- on par, a few better than Live & Dangerous * A couple of new, non L & D songs * Excellent bass and drum sound / mixes * Very low Brian Robertson and guitars in mix. This is painfully evident all through the disc, almost funny when the band is introduced. Like another review, you find youself turning the volume up on your stereo to "hear" the songs as you know them. Both guitars are a little low, but Robbo's was turned down like he had bad credit!. This really hurts the CD. I hate to point the finger at Gorham, since he was involved in this release and mixing with Johns. And he seems like a nice-enough guy. But the levels make this CD hard to listen to, or play it more than a couple of times. If you're a hard-core Lizzy fan like me, buy Opium Trail (excellent version) and another of your favorite songs as downloads, and save you $$ for their other upcoming live album (compilation of all the guitarists) or the excellent L & D DVD.

Although there may be some tracks missing from this disc I still give it 5 stars because simply put..it kicks all kinds of azz! Thin Lizzy are for me one of the great rock bands ever. I don't think they make 'em like this anymore and that's a shame. I loved it when Gary Moore was in the band but this is the classic Lizzy lineup in all its glory. The guitar work here is superb. Phil Lynott is in vintage form and let me not forget to mention the criminally underrated Brian Downey on drums. This disc just rocks, period! Phil Lynott may be gone but he will never be forgotten.

this album is very special to me because i was at one of the two shows that this recording was taken from. i was in the fourth row, right below brian robertson.
i must agree with the other reviewers that it's a little disappointing that many of the songs they played that night have been left out. thin lizzy were an excellent live band and recordings like this prove it. the overall sound is very good although i thought the guitars were buried a bit in the mix, but hey, i'll take it! when i first listened to it, i was taken back to that thursday night almost thirty years ago... i feel that every thin lizzy fan should pick this up.

I felt cheated by this purchase. Lizzy has always been one of my favorite bands and this product is not what it should be. This concert was originally a live brodcast for the King Biscuit Flower Hour. The entire show is streamed on the free site "wolfgang's vault". 16 songs not the 10 on this cd. Well. I just hope Phil's kids get a piece of what I spent on this. I agree with a previous reviewer that some of the songs from this show are used on the "Live and Dangerous" album.

1977 was the year I saw the band for the first time, the Bad Rep tour. When I heard the full length version of these recordings I was just about transported back in time. The highlights were the songs that had not been released live before, specifically Soldier of Fortune and Johnny the latter being an amazing version.
What puzzles me the most about this whole recording is that to me it is on par with L & D, in fact some of the note playing is identical, makes me wonder if some parts of this show were lifted in to the L&D recording, especially with what we know about the overt over dubbing done. This recording has more "energy" than L&D due to its lack of production.

Why Not The Whole Show?,
By
This review is from: Still Dangerous: Live at the Tower Theater Philade (Audio CD)
This is just not right. I thought they were going to release the whole show! Wasn't this a KBFH broadcast? Anyway you can fit 80 mins worth of music on a CD, and you get this!! I was already to buy it until I saw the setlist. I'll just stick to listening to "Live And Dangerous".
