4.0 out of 5 stars Lenny Williams "Still" Has it at Age 67... August 31, 2012
By dwood78
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Last month on Music Choice's R&B Soul channel, I came across Lenny Williams' new single "Still" by accident. This is the 1st new song I heard from him since "Don't Make Me Wait for Love" more than 25 years ago. That said, it's great to hear him again & to see that his voice has stayed the same after all these years.

This album has Williams singing from a number of R&B/soul styles, from contemporary R&B (the previously mentioned "Still", "This Is for the One That Got Away" & the cover of Heather Headley's "In My Mind"), to Memphis soul ("I'm a Happy Man" & "Sunshine." Both which sound like something Al Green would have done.), neo soul (the D'Angelo-ish "Make Love"), 80s soul ("On This Day" featuring saxophonist Kirk Whalum, a song which I can see becoming a wedding standard in Black America.) & even some down home blues ("Grown Man" & the closer. For you longtime fans of Williams check out "Where Did Our Love Go?" That song will remind you of his best known song "Cause I Love You." It parallels it in so many ways including the monologue he does as the song climaxes & the oh-ohs as well.

The rest of the songs here are all good- some I do like more than others, but there's no bad songs in this album, although I do have a minor issue with the content of some of the songs-mainly its hard of me to imagination the 67-year old Williams going thought some of the experiences presented in the songs. Age issues set aside however, he took these songs & made them his own, & will appeal to both his older fans & the younger crowd alike. Also by switching between real (horns, drums & guitar) instrumentation & keyboards/drum machine thought-out, he also avoids falling into the trap of sounding too popish like a lot of modern day R&B.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for Everyone! August 26, 2012

Lenny Williams has provided a album that states,"Age ain't nothing but a number!" Mr. Williams takes you through a journey of delight moving from one vein of music to another. He has Southern Soul to Modern R&B using his voice to connect the listener to the message. Do I want a little more? NO! He has my evening much better with what he has given us. GOOD MUSIC!

4.0 out of 5 stars BlackAmarillo.com Review December 4, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
In 2000, The Original Kings Of Comedy Steve Harvey tore the whole place down by lip synching the 1978 classic song by Lenny Williams "'Cause I Love You" with the famous line "Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh,Oh....OOOOOOhhhhhh!"

Lenny Williams 17th Studio project entitled "Still In The Game" 40 years to be exact and at age 67 Lenny Williams former lead singer of "Tower Of Power" is STILL going strong.

"Still In The Game" is a continuation of his 2009 release "Unfinished Business" which is also a "MUST" buy.
Giving you all the elements of R&B with a combination of Southern & Memphis soul. Real grown folks music.

My favorites on the R&B side. "Still", "This Is For The One That Got Away", "Make Love" & "Where Did Our Love Go" which sounds similar to the classic 'Cause I Love You.

The song called "On This Day" f/ Kirk Whalum can be foreseen as a classic wedding song. Lenny also does a nice cover of Heather Headley's "In My Mind"

For all my Down Home Blues lovers check out "Happy Man" & "Sunshine" which will take you back to classic Al Green and "Grown Man", "Good Girl" & "I'm Sorry I Didn't Know It Was Your Mama" which was also on the "Unfinished Business" disc is just good ol' Southern Soul music.

And lastly for all you Steppers check out "Stepping and Dancing"

"Still In The Game" is definitely a must buy for those who truly appreciates R&B/Soul music
