Editorial Reviews

2013 release, the first album of new material in six years for this acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist. With a career that spans over 30 years, Patty Larkin has an international fan base. Patty Larkin redefines the boundaries of folk-urban pop music with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising vocals and lyrics. Acoustic Guitar hails her "soundscape experiments" while Rolling Stone praises her "evocative and sonic shading". She has been described as "riveting", "hypnotic", and a "drop dead brilliant" performer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Green, always Patty September 24, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I've been listening to Patty Larkin for more than 25 years now. There are so many things I appreciate - the songwriting, the guitar skill, her presence. What I think I appreciate most is her ability to both reinvent herself with each record, and also remain constant at her core. This remains the case with her latest release, Still Green. While the stories behind the songs have their share of tragic circumstances, Patty converts that into a more contemplative read on things. The music has a very thoughtful, even atmospheric, feel to it. I can feel the sea breezes skimming the sand dunes where she wrote a lot of this music. Through it all, the same stellar skill on guitar shines through, bringing the recognizable consistency that can be found throughout Patty's releases.

If you like great songwriting, if you like great guitar playing... if you want to be reminded of the good things that are important while going through tough times, you'll enjoy this album. Recommended for old and new Pat fans!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great playing and vocal abilities get lost in this mix. December 7, 2013
By Xagan
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Patty continues to bury her songs in washes of layered guitar soundscapes. Frankly it is getting old. Many may disagree, but her songs are displayed at their best when paired most simply with her masterful technique applied on her Olson acoustic and her dramatic often staggering vocal abilities. Her we have to wait for the last song to hear her in the configuration. If you make it that far (the preceding songs in their lushness are often a snoozefest as delivered here) listen to the last song, then replay the rest and try to imagine how they might have faired in the pared down grace of the last entry. The impact of the final performance really shows up the over gilding of the lily that is the rest of the album. I realize that as an artist, creating these soundscapes must be a much more interesting and perhaps more satisfying task. But as a listener, it becoming a task to have to sit through, only to have the gem at the end and be left to wonder what might have been.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Green...an album with full bloom color. October 13, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you like melodic music with well thought out and meaningful lyrics, then Still Green should be on your list to buy. Like most of Patty's albums, there is not a bad song. Just sit back and enjoy the ocean breeze and the warm sunshine. Patty's grief of losing her parents is turned into healing through this album. It helped me too. Thank you Patty for another soul touching album. Great guitar, and I love the cello.
