Our Lord rebuked the disciples for fearing when apparently they had good reason for being alarmed. The problem is -- if Jesus Christ is only the carpenter of Nazareth, then the disciples were foolish to put Him at the tiller, but if He is the Son of God, what are they alarmed about? If Jesus Christ is God, where is my trust in Him? If He is not God, why am I so foolish as to pretend to worship Him?

About the Author

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Bible teacher, conference leader, and YMCA chaplain. After his death, his widow compiled his writings in a number of popular daily devotional books, including My Utmost for His Highest, an enduring classic of the Christian faith that continues to inspire men and women the world over.

Oswald Chambers was converted in his teen years by the ministry of Charles Spurgeon. Chambers studied art and archaeology before answering the call to Christian ministry. Author of the bestseller My Utmost for His Highest, Chambers has more than thirty other titles to his credit, all but one compiled by his wife, Gertrude.

Chambers is a perennial favorite for growing believers, and this is no exception. The daily entries are shorter, more consise and sometimes even more poignant than in the original "My Utmost...". This will remain one of my favorite daily readings.
