This is an awesome CD of Idina's and her newest one is even better. Dont pay the insane amount these people are asking for it used. If you go to Idina Menzels personal website u can order the CD's for a under $20. U can also buy the new CD at the Gershwin Theater in NY if you go see Wicked. I have been an Idina fan since she first started in Rent. She is just an amazing singer/songwriter/performer. Go out and get her CD's and get them through her site. The CD's these people are selling with holes punched in them are free samples sent out to people from the company which means Idina gets nothing out from ur purchase. Call me crazy but when I purchase a CD for an insane amount of money I want that money to go to the artist.

Idina has an excellent voice, and this CD is worth the money for any fan of Wicked, or Idina herself. The songs are excellent, "Still I Can't Be Still" shows off her vocals, and "Think too Much" is fun & funky.

I bought this album in 1998.

It is still one of my most-played CDs. I don't understand why she's not a household name. Her lyrics are soul-searching and powerful, just like her unbelievably versatile voice. This album combines some of the most poetic and personal lyrics since Joni Mitchell with an appealing blend of pop, funk, rock, soul, hip-hop, funk, R&B ballads, and even techno-tribal sounds. My personal favorites include the introspective title track and her dark opus "Straw Into Gold".

Idina is AMAZING! Buy this album any way you can!

i first found out about idina when i bought the wicked soundtrack but it wasnt long before i became a fan of her as a singer and an actress. she has an incredible voice...beyond belief. this album is an example of not only how amazing her voice is (which is a given) but how great her song writing skills are. her lyrics are heartfelt and give you a peek into her heart and mind. my favorite is "still i cant be still" (its my anthem to put it simply) but i also love "minuet" (the video is ADORABLE with taye) and "heart on my sleeve". "straw into gold" is really good...i love the beat. personally, i can relate to a lot of her songs which i can't do with other artists. basically, the entire album is great. i definitely reccomend it!

I personally listen to a wide veriety of music ranging from Broadway to Evanescence. I recently heard Idina sing in Wicked and I was blown away by the soundtrack alone. I then found out that she had a album. I imediatly went looking for it and I was lucky enough to come across a copy. I am still blown away by it. It isn't soul or jazz or rock... I can't place it... she is her own genere. This is the best album I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. I would recomend it to anyone over the age of 13. She is a fantasic singer by all strands of the imagination. Her album is about her past and her life in New York City. Listening to the songsg you can really hear her personality come through. My favorite songs at the moment are Heart on My Sleeve, Straw into Gold, Fool out of Me, and Think Too Much. She is a fantastic singer but sadly, her album isn't sold anymore. I got my copy on ebay. Good luck finding a copy and it is very worthwhile. This is her best album.

This girl has the most amazing voice in the world. If only she had better songs to sing. Don't get me wrong this is a great CD she has a very powerful voice she just didn't get to use is much here.
For her next CD i would like for her sing hit songs from the past and present or maybe even her faverot broadway songs that she has never performed on stage.

I first got this cd over the summer of 2003 because I became a renthead. I didn't even know if I would like the cd, I just knew that Idina had the best voice ever ("larynx of steel"). So I bought it used (why anybody would want to sell it I don't know) and quickly was amazed at just how good it was. Every song was so great, and so uniquely her. After this albuem you really get a feel for what her personality is like and just how amazing her voice is because the Rent CD doesn't come close to showing how great she can be. I got the privilge to meet her and her personality didn't surprise me, she was so nice! My favorite songs inclue Staw Into Gold, Minuet, Still I Can't Be Still, and Planet Z. Also I'm sure we're all hoping that this is going to be her time. She's now in Wicked as Elphaba and is so amazing!!! This is going to be her Tony for best actress. After not getting it last time she's definetly going to get it! So get it and be on the lookout for her new album!!!!

Idina Menzel's first album is fantastic. Her indie/alternative/pop sound is unique and fun, and her lirics are clever AND meaningful, which is not a combination you find too often these days. Idina has a one in a million kind of voice and this album shows off her range. Buy it!

i see all these references to idina in the show, 'rent'. i dunno about her performance in 'rent', nor does it matter. this cd is absolutley amazing and the work of a true artist. it has great writing and utterly touching songs. i don't understand why great material like this is ignored by radio but this is leaps and bounds better than the usual fare, and more hearfelt and passionate than most artists out. i hope for more idina soon!

I enjoy the fact that one of the songs on this CD is called "Straw into Gold." I enjoy the fairy tale allusion because as this review is written, Idina Menzel is starring as Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) in the musical "Wicked" in San Francisco. This is where I was first introduced to her. I instantly wanted to know more about her. She's so lovely (even in green makeup!) and talented and gives such a sensitive performance. How lucky we were to be introduced to this musical first (before New York) and to Idina. This CD showcases her lovely clear voice before she went on to bigger things (just wait until the "Wicked" soundtrack)! There are many unusual and funky songs on the CD. My preferences are "Straw into Gold" and the more traditional cabaret-style song, "Heart on My Sleeve." The last really showcases her sweet voice. Let's keep an eye on this rising star.
