This album is great! A good CD from start to finish. Concept 11 is a great song to listen to and relax.

I heard a snippet of Concept 11 on NPR a month ago and those 30 seconds were just so enjoyable that I had to look up the track. I was pleased to find that the whole album is all the same kind of music and all the tracks are very good. The bass in particular is very rich and gives a really pleasing thump; you'll definitely need a subwoofer to enjoy this album to its full extent. The melodies are pretty simple but catchy and use your typical electronica-variety instruments. Yet when cleverly layered with the fabulous beats, the tunes flow brilliantly--it's kind of organic. None of the tracks have any vocals, except some faint words on Spira Mirabilis.
Concept 11 appears to be the only single-worthy track, but as I said they're all quite good. Spira Miribilis is the most pop-like of them all. Concept 15 reminds me a lot of classic Boards of Canada. I enjoy the funkiness of Concept 1; it also has a hint of old-school tracker scene. And Concept 16 is a delightful mix of all the aforementioned qualities. It's perfect music to overlay on any work or just chill-out with. And it certainly isn't dance music unless you lack bones and can worm around in mid-air, defying gravity, which is actually how this album makes me feel.

Perfect calm electronica,

If you like this genre of music at all, you need to check this album out. Kodomo has created some of the best music to zone out to that I've ever heard. The samples provided should convince anyone considering it.

A serene oasis...,

The music industry as we know it is dead... They're complaining that no one's buying music anymore, not acknowledging the fact that MAYBE they should start putting out stuff that's actually worth listening to...
The good thing is, now new artists are emerging... artists like they used to be... artists who make music for music, not for fame or money. Artists who don't care about being "commercially correct" (just made that one up ;) but just have a vision and make... Music! The result is of course something much more worth buying than anything you'll hear on big radios or TV stations... Thank god for the internet and technology in general. Now is the time for real artists to resurface and take back what was rightfully theirs. No more gimmicks... just true, honest, artistic expression... This album is just that. A breath of fresh air... |
