ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Deborah Hughes moved into a haunted house at the age of seven and lived there for seven scary years. Sharing a house with dead people had a lot of influence on her beliefs and perspectives about life...and death. She has been curious about anything associated with the paranormal ever since. Her over-active imagination created problems for her on occasion but she focused some of that creative energy on writing stories. Naturally ghosts often factor into her stories. Although a career in the Air Force derailed her author dreams, she's now on track and eager to share the stories filtering through her head and out her fingertips!

About the Author

Deborah Hughes was a normal kid living a normal life when she moved into a haunted house at the age of seven. Suddenly she was sharing space with dead people and experiencing the bizarre world of the unknown and the uncanny. An over-active imagination did not, at first, serve her well for she feared what she did not understand. Learning to read opened her to the world of books and she read everything she could find about supernatural and paranormal phenomena. The more she read, the more she learned and the more she realized how little she knew. This has led to a lifelong search for knowledge, truth and enlightenment. Constantly inspired to write, from the age of eight she began telling the stories streaming like movies through her mind. Although determined to grow up and become a writer, her sense of adventure led to a career in the United States Air Force. Despite a busy and demanding life, Deborah continued writing the stories that came to her in flashes of inspiration and her quest for knowledge continued. Her military career now behind her, she is focused on her lifelong dream of being an author and sharing the stories she’s been so compelled to write. This novel has a compelling and suspenseful plot, and the writer has a nice feel for location and region. This should develop into a strong series anchored by a protagonist with a provocative gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful, Enthralling December 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was hooked from page one. This book is very Gothic. Very mysterious. Very intriguing. Will Tess ever reconnect with her dead husband? What restless spirits haunt the Maine resort? I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Gothic romance, a spooky read, well-developed suspense, sympathetic characters, and a satisfying resolution. Can't wait for Deborah Hughes' next book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not great July 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not a great book - kind of preachy, at times sappy, and the ending is a bit muddled, but hey - its been raining alot and its always good to have something to read right? I think the writer has potential, and I probably will read more from her in the future to see if that is the case.

2.0 out of 5 stars Was hopeful April 1, 2012

***SPOILERS***
I love a good ghost story with some romance. What I didn't expect was the references to God throughout the book (much more in the beginning). The other thing that put me off was the idea that people who die by an accident actually chose that path. That may be the case for someone who is terminally ill or depressed, but a healthy male in his late 30's, happy and goes out to the store to pick up sour cream wanted to be hit head-on by a drunk driver. I think the story had potential if the author left out her religious musings. So for that, I'll give it 2 stars. I just wish there were tags mentioning the true content of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A View Into the Life of a Medium January 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book! I normally do not read books about mediums or ghosts, but gave it a try based on a recommendation. I have a very dear friend who is sensitive to spirits but I always took her gift for granted and never really tried to understand it. Ms. Hughes did such a great job of explaining the why and how of being a medium that I have a whole new respect for my friend. The book has great characters and visuals and the plot was very engaging--and a great surprise ending! The description of the resort was so good that I went online to see if really existed (it doesn't). I can definitely see a sequel coming! I highly recommend Ms. Hughes' book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to more from this author January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this on a whim. I heard the subject and it sounded like something I would like--and I was not disappointed. I very much like the heroine created by Hughes. She was believable, strong and admirable. The love stories are sweet and compelling in this novel (the story of the heroine and her lost love and new love, along with the lovers on the "other side"). The topic of "medium solved mystery" was intriguing. I haven't seen the t.v. shows with this topic but while I wait for Hughes next book, I will be looking for them on Netflix.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enthralling read January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Be Still, My Love, by Deborah J. Hughes, is an intriguing paranormal mystery set in Maines, in a beautiful beach resort haunted by a pair of star-crossed lovers.

Tess Schafer, a beautiful, twenty-five year old medium, communicates with spirits and is the intermediary between the living and the dead. She has just suffered personal loss which left her angry at the world and at her spiritual network for failing to warn her. Her visit to the resort triggers an escalation of spiritual activity as the ghosts of the past come forth to help her unravel the mystery surrounding their deaths.

Written in first-person POV, which is not my favourite, this book still manages to captivate my imagination and my emotions through the realism of the raw feelings and thoughts assailing Tess. The séances added that level of spookiness not found in other paranormal books, with just the right amount of explanations to make things clearer for this reader.

An enthralling read for paranormal fans, spiced with a tinge of romance.

More About the Author

At the tender age of seven, Deborah Hughes moved into a haunted old farmhouse with her family. Sharing a home with dead people is sure to put a new perspective on things and once she was old enough to read, she devoured book after book in the hopes of gaining some understanding of what she and her family were going through. But the more she learned, the more she realized how little she knew. This realization has led to a lifelong exploration of the paranormal world.

Although determined to grow up and become an author, her sense of adventure led to a career in the United States Air Force. Instead of making books she was making bombs, not quite what she expected to do with her life but she certainly experienced an adventure.

Despite her busy life and demanding career, Deborah continued writing the stories filling her head and demanding to be told. It's a calling no writer can ignore.

Now, with her military career behind her, she is finally focused on doing what she loves most...writing the kinds of stories she loves to read. Stories that involve her interests in the paranormal, the supernatural and the spiritual (though she does like to throw in some romance if it can be worked in!).

She hopes her readers will be as intrigued with her books as she is!
