As a newbie into the world of meditation, this CD was recommended by a life coach. I battle anxiety and wanted something other than meds to help me. On the first CD (two CD set) the author teaches the listener basics in meditating which is something I really needed. On the second CD he leads the listener in various sessions of meditation. I love the experience and besides the guys voice is awesome. I would recommend this CD to others wanting to dive into the world of meditation!

If you have not listened to Bodhipaksa before, he is truly in a class of his own. I have a big collection of works from many other well known authors, i.e. Dyer, Chopra, Tolle etc. However, Bodhipaksa is very unique and you will realize it immediately whenever you listen to any of his works. There is an authenticity that makes you realize he is not just cranking it out for commerical gain. Also his works are very pleasant to listen to over and over again and the exercises are extremely easy to implement. He does not try to create complexity as a selling point, but rather simplifies complex thoughts for practical use.
When I was notified by Amazon of the new release I immediately pre-ordered it. Although much of the material has all been released before, some of it is new and worthwhile. The Mindfulness portion for instance is a popular "in theme" having been pushed years ago by John Cabot Zinn and then picked up by Wayne Dyer and everyone else...so not unique. Although this CD does have a significant portion of his past materials, tracks 4 and 5 of Session 1 alone are worth the price of the CD. (The Five Hindrances). If you dont have any of his prior materials then you should pick this up, and you will get a good working selection of Bodhipaksa. If you have any of his past materials there is a significant duplication here of a lot of it. (other than the new tracks which are superb) Hopefully he will release more material in the future but his scarcity of content is probably better than others that just have become too commericial in producing profits on obscure themes.

I very much enjoyed "Still the Mind" and I think it is absolutely perfect for someone who is just starting out. I found it gave me a bit of a refresher and made counting - which had been getting tired - feel fresh again. Bodhipaksa's style is very straightforward and not new-agey which is good. I find some of that stuff annoying, but this CD doesn't try to add a lot of extra pomp and ceremony, it is straightforward and clear. Life is dramatic enough without having your meditation teacher trying to blow incense smoke up your butt.

A little disappointed,
This review is from: Still the Mind (Audio CD)
If you don't own any of Bodhipaksa's other CDs, this would be a good buy. However, I have all the other ones and was very disappointed when this was just a repeat. It was a waste of money for me and I was so excited when I saw what I thought was new material out there. Because he is fantastic. You can tell it was rerecorded because there are subtle differences, but it's the same stuff. I think it should be a crime to rerelease the same material and call it something else without stating that clearly. There are some additional tracks that are not meditations, more audio book, but the meditations are exactly what he has released before.

HELPFUL,

THIS IS THE FIRST MEDITATION TAPE AMONG MANY I BOUGHT ON THE SAME DAY THAT IS WHAT IT PURPORTS TO BE. IT IS TRULY HELPFUL IN CALMING THE MIND. I USE IT TO FALL ASLEEP, AND RARELY DO I GET TO THE END OF THE CD. I USUALLY FALL ASLEEP WITHIN 5 OR 6 MINUTES, ONE OF THE MAIN PURPOSES OF LISTENING TO MEDITATION. I BELIEVE BEING ASLEEP WITH THE CD GOING IS POWERFUL.

Excellent for beginning meditation or Buddhism,

It is very much like sitting and enjoying your company one on one while we discuss meditation and Buddhism. The lessons and information are easy to hear and thus, easy to absorb.
