I'm a man in my seventh decade of life who has seen much and who has experienced much. This movie, I found quite by accident, but I'm much richer from having found it! I had not seen the actress in any role in years; I do not know why; perhaps I just had not found her movies, nor the male lead in several years; but, again, I am enormously glad to have found them partnered in these roles. I caught many lumps in my throat in several scenes, and the acting was so natural as to be a real event, which I was sharing all the way through. I cannot thank you enough for allowing access to this movie. While it broke my heart, it also was quite healing; and I could only hope that someone (anyone) might love me so much as that affection and deep-soul type love that was so manifest in this movie. I would honestly give it 10 stars, if that many were available to me. As my title suggests: It was not one's ideal of a "thrilling" movie, but it was certainly one that will touch your heart — and even your soul, if you have one that can be touched. I would gladly watch it again; and that is how I judge an excellent movie. My regards — Noel T. Manning

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem Not To Be Missed October 12, 2013
Format:DVD
What a magnificent story of strength and integrity. James Cromwell and Genevieve Bujold draw you into their long and amorous love affair with each other -- and the strength of that love underscores the passion for Cromwell's stand against dispassionate bureaucrats. This movie came and went with a whisper. It's one of the great summer movies that has stayed with us for months now. Can't wait to have it for our collection -- we'll watch it again and again.

"We're still here, we have each other and isn't everything else a bonus?" Craig (Cromwell) and his wife Irene (Bujold) are in their 80's and beginning to feel it. Craig is being hit with new regulations on his farm and is unable to adapt as fast as he needs and Irene is beginning to show signs of dementia. Rather then admit they need to enter a home Craig decides to build a new home on their land that is smaller and easier for them to manage. Once again Craig is hit with new regulations that hinder his process but some things are harder to break then laws. Going in my first thought was...an old guy building a house, sounds exciting. It didn't take long at all for me to realize how wrong I was. The movie is filled with heart and the roadblocks Craig has to go through make you want to throw something at the screen. The fact that this is a true story makes it that much more touching. Overall, much much better then I expected, if you liked Amour you will like this as well. I really enjoyed this much more then expected. I give this a B+.

One of the best movies I have seen in awhile and I rent a lot of movies!! This movie will make you sad, happy and angry. Sad and happy because of the relationship between these two people and angry because of the obstacles they face and the fact that it is based on a true story! I highly recommend this movie. Curl up on the couch with a nice blanket and some snacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love as strong as the ages May 16, 2014

The aging of married partners at different paces, the vows of till death do you part, the natural relentless procession of time,....all realities long term partners face depicted with honesty and strength of character. I've heard it said that "aging ain't for sissies" and as I age I watch it being played out with peers. One of the most inspiring aspects of this movie is that is based on true life. James Cromwell is outstanding for his portrayal and character.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent film October 11, 2013
Format:DVD
I saw this film at a Film Festival last year, and I am eagerly waiting for it to be available for purchase. This film is poignant, beautifully filmed, superb script and stellar acting. I think this may be James Cromwell's finest work. This is a film not to be missed.
