About the Author

More than 120 million readers have found comfort in the writings of Max Lucado. He ministers at the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Denalyn, and a sweet but misbehaving mutt, Andy.

More About the Author

In just under two decades of writing, Max Lucado has accomplished more than most writers hope for in a lifetime. Most of his books have appeared on one or more best seller lists, including those published by the "New York Times," "USA Today," "Publishers Weekly," and the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). Aside from hardcover books, Lucado's writings have also been published as children's books, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, music CDs, mass paperback booklets, apparel, giftware, bookmarks, calendars, study Bibles, workbooks, curricula, and plush products. In spring 2003, Hallmark/Dayspring Cards launched a new gift card line featuring excerpts from Lucado's writings--and has already sold more than one million cards.

All this success has drawn more than a little attention to a previously low-profile Texas author and minister. Lucado has been featured in a wide range of media, including "USA Today," "Larry King Live," and "NBC Nightly News." He has spoken at the National Prayer Breakfast before the President of the United States. He has traveled with internationally renowned musicians as a special speaker on their music tours, such as the highly successful "Come Together & Worship Tour" (sponsored by Chevrolet) with Grammy Award-winning artists Michael W. Smith and Third Day.

Journey to the Top
Lucado was born in 1955 in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, the youngest of four children. His father was an Exxon oil field mechanic who, Lucado remembers, always smelled of grease cleaner. "It makes it easy for me to see a God who is loving and kind--because my dad was," he says. His mother was a nurse who grew up working in the cotton fields.

Lucado went through a period of rebellion against his parents' values and their God during his teens and into college. But it wasn't long before he found himself drawn back to his roots, back to God. He married, spent time serving as a missionary in Brazil, and returned to the States, where he began working as a church minister and writing on the side.

Secret to Success
From all accounts, Max Lucado is not a man consumed by sales, awards, and achievements. He often turns down media interviews since they impede on family and ministry commitments. He spends the bulk of his week serving as senior minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. And he is truly surprised by his own success--more impressed by his one-in-a-million wife and three amazing daughters than by his successful writing career.

Format: Paperback
Max Lucado has become one of the most read Christian writers because of his encouraging books and this one is no exception!
The theme of this book is to show how God moved during biblical times and encouragement for the reader to realize and believe that the same God is still at work today.
Some of the subjects covered by Lucado include:
1. Overcoming shame.
2. Facing discouragement.
3. How to love growing old.
4. When others let you down.
5. When you are out of choices.
6. When you're trapped by legalism.
7. When you wonder if God cares.
8. When you are afraid of the future.
There are a total of 21 such subjects and Lucado addresses them like only he can - by describing a biblical example, how Jesus addressed the issue, and how you can have hope for today.
God is not silent, He still works in the lives of believers! Read the book and be encouraged to hang in there when things get tough. God is for us, not against us!

A friend at church loaned me this book. This book has left me feeling so small and unworthy of such a wonderful God. Since I became a Christian, two years ago in August 1997, God has performed several miracles in my life, one being healing my lungs to the extent that I no longer require supplemental oxygen twenty four hours a day. I had been oxygen dependant for over eleven years and now only require it in emergencies. I praise the Lord for this miracle and all the others He continues to show me. I literally shook as I read Maxs' book, because I am a living testament to the healing powers Max refers to of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord continue to bless Max Lucado with word to touch other souls so they too may know, God IS still with us. We need only to seek Him. HE WILL ANSWER!

This is a most powerful and empowering book. Max Lucado, a spiritual writer, refers to the way Christ moves the stones (obstacles) in your path with this title. Such relevant issues include feeling shame for past behaviors, when others let us down, facing discouragement, having a bad attitude and my personal favorite dealing with difficult relatives. Lucado who often writes with a whimsical format, wrote this book more on a pensive level although not critical. He even has a chapter he calls "Listless Christianity". My favorite quote in the book is "Faith sometimes begins by stuffing your ears with cotton". Meaning you have to ignore those who tell you that you aren't smart enough, not strong enough, not pretty enough, not tall enough, etc. to achieve your goals. After you have finished the text, there are study guides for you to review at your own pace. These study guides will provide the opportunity for you to apply what you have learned to your individual situation.

I wish that I could give this book ten stars which is righly what it deserves and more. I have not read all of Mr. Lucado's books as yet, but this has to be one of his best. Max Lucado paints the early life of Christ on earth in the gospels in his gallery of stories when our Saviour walked this earth in the flesh. I felt God's love and presence so deeply as he performed his daily miracles, heal the sick turn water into wine, speak about grace, forgiveness, disappointments and even prayer. I just could not help compare the biblical times to our present day situations, and I found myself doing this in all of the stories. I can say without a doubt that the Holy Spirit has guided the author's hand throughout this book as I felt the power of God so stronly as I read. This book challenges one to look at your life and examine it and see the way God has moved in your past as a non-Christian until the present as a Christian. He still moves stones every minute in our every day lives, and that's one reason we must exalt and praise His Holy Name. Readers please buy this book and be inspired as I was. Max Lucado..........thank you, thank you thank you.

My daughter first encouraged me to read "Just Like Jesus" by Max Lucado. I have read six of his books now and they have changed my life. Reading this book was such an empowering experience - I know that God is my constant companion and anything is possible!

I've read most of Max Lucado's books and this is not only my favorite by him but my favorite book of all time. (Well, except for the Bible.)

This book is helpful in some way for anyone who reads it. I have given this book as a gift for so many people going through a tough time and it has helped each one.

No one tells a story in quite the way Lucado does. It is hard to put his books down and this is one book that I read continually until I finished it. It is a book you keep and read again and again.

God has blessed Max Lucado with a gift of story telling and finding scripture that might be obscure or a special verse that God shows him and then opens his heart to a whole new and unique way of looking at and explaining its meaning in a way that is easy to understand. He brings about such deep emotions with his writing.

God has given Max Lucado a special gift and in turn God, through Lucado, will bless each person who read his books. This book is a must read for everyone. On a scale of 1-5 I really give this book a 10.
