Better Than Expected,
By Baba Ghanoush (Cleveland, OH) - See all my reviews

I've always been a fan of Senses Fail. I was hooked to their debut EP 'From The Depths Of Dreams". "Let It Enfold You" seemed a little weaker in my eyes but was a decent album, nothing special. I didn't expect much else from this album and didn't plan on buying it until I saw it on sale. Lucky for the album was better than I expected. I think the instrumentals are exceptional compared to the last two albums. The album has a very good sound throughout it, while maintaining the vocal style one would expect from the band. The best tracks from me are "Calling All Cars", "Still Searching", and "The Priest and the Matador".

Surprisingly, this album doesn't suck!,

I thought this album was not going to be very good, but I gave it a chance and was extremely surprised. It does not suck, as a matter of fact, it's actually pretty good! It's growing on me, "Let it Enfold You" didn't. The addition of Heath on guitar has DEFINATELY changed this band for the better. This is worth a listen or two, it'll grow on you.
Lyrically, a lot of the songs are about losing faith in God/Christianity...which I thought was very surprising for thie band. Poor choice in first single asside, there are some great tracks here. The Rapture/Bonecrusher (they go in together, really...), Can't be Saved, The Priest and the Matador are my favorite three.

Senses Fail kicks major booty! Every one of the albums they have made are amazing. Still Searching is no exception. If you have never heard of them before its totally worth the buy. Also if you get a chance see them in concert they will rock your face off!

I love this cd! it reminds me of the good old days when I first discovered rock. There cool guitar and drums and the bass sounds great! and of course the singer is awesome! The whole cd is basically about this guy who was a Catholic and it never did him any good so he is "still searching" so ya... if your catholic dont let your parents catch you with this cd! haha!

One of the best albums I've heard...ever!,

I have heard a lot of music. I consider this album to be one of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The lyricism is beautiful. The music simply kicks a$$. The pain and beauty in the songs is really kind of triumphant (and I know that sounds a bit antiquated). The subject matter probably makes a lot of the unthinking masses a little uncomfortable, but for those of us at peace with the realities of life this album is a breath of fresh air. Much needed. Some of the ideas may have been said before, but very few artists have expounded them with such clarity. Which, I think, means everything. What good is an idea if it isn't understood? But don't start thinking this album isn't hard, because it is, and that's what I like about it. It conveys very important themes over music that rocks! I like that the lyrics aren't always mixed with a lot of symbolism or hyperbole (there is that, of course) but often times the words say exactly what they mean or use symbolism that is quick to decipher, meaningful and visually poignant.
I've listened to this CD over and over and can still listen to it. I have to disagree with some other reviewers who think their earlier stuff is better. I think some of their early songs are indeed genius, but overall those albums hit low spots that I have tried to like and no matter how much I try just don't. In their earlier albums there just isn't the level of drive and cohesiveness that this album and "Life is Not a Waiting Room" have. Really, in my opinion, a masterpiece. Personal, painful, beautiful.

a screamo cd which is uncharacteristic for this group.
i love their previous ablbums, but this one is, despite track, Calling All Cars, is less than appealing for me.

My Review on STILL SEARCHING by Senses Fail 1) The Rapture- 8/10- short lil song, but it has some good lyrics. This song kind of explains the cd :) 2) Bonecrusher- 9/10- I like its beat! Awesone lyrics! (Drink up the lonliness). The chorus is awesome! 3)Sick or Sane(Fifty For A Twenty)-8/10- Awesome upbeat song, gets a lil repetitive though. 4)Can't Be Saved- 11/10- Single from the cd, the guitar is awesome in this song, and the chorus is awesome! (Im stuck in a coma, stuck in a never ending sleep <3) 5)Calling All Cars- 11/10- Another Single! Catchy and upbeat! 6)Shark Attack-8/10- A very upbeat song! Catchy chorus! Gets repetitive though. 7)Still Searching-12/10-My favorite form the cd! Awesome lyrics and suprisingly has some what of a lot of screaming definetly towards the end. 8)To All The Crowded Rooms- 7/10- I love the chorus! For some reason i didnt liek it much though. Very repetitive! 9)Lost and Found- 10/10- A slow song, but has very well written lyrics :) ( This is the part where i'll admit im getting what I deserve) 10)Every Day Is A Struggle- 11/10- The chorus is so catchy! Definetly one of the best on Still Searching. 11)All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues- 9/10- Has some cool techno, dont you love the song name? The chorus is catchy! Conncets to Negative Space and The Priest and The Matador. 12)Negative Space- Im not gonna rate it cause it's not a song, it's kind of cool. This is I guess this is kind of representing when the guy falls off the building or w/e and it just feels forever. This leads on to Priest and the Matador. 13)The Priest and The Matador-12/10- Kind of slow not really upbeat like other songs. This song is soo sad but it's written very beautifully. :)

Jersey emo-rockers let focused aggression take center stage.,
By Aaron Warlock (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Still Searching (Audio CD)
Senses Fail's debut album, 2004's Let It Enfold You was solid but flawed, competent but ultimately unremarkable. Chugging guitars and harmonizing solos proved to be its strong points but cookie cutter melodic breakdowns and singer Buddy Nielsen's sometimes strained and akward singing didn't lend much in helping the New Jersey based group stand out in the exceedingly crowded second wave screamo scene.
Not content to live in the shadow of Taking Back Sunday, SF's new album is the triumphant result of a band who has focused and refined their strengths, abandoned their weak points and reached adulthood. The underlying potential of the then-inexperienced youths that their previous album alluded to is fully realized on Still Searching: seething with tension and urgency from start to finish, the record is an exhilirating late-night ride down a highway of shredding riffs, melodic choruses and explosive high-tempo drumwork. Nielsen's vocals are right on target, aided by concise, razor-sharp lyricism while the addition of former Midtown guitarist Heath Saraceno has opened a door to high-energy guitar dynamics, dramatic scale progressions and 80s heavy metal guitar solos. All of Still Searching's songs bleed seamlessly into one another, from the melodic hardcore opening assault of The Rapture and Bonecrusher (possibly the most ridiculously awesome song title ever) to the beautifully somber melodies of the album's finale Negative Space/The Priest and the Matador. Still Searching is the finished product of five young musicians who have finally found their stride and has the potential to make fans of listeners and critics unimpressed with 2004's Let It Enfold You. |
