Anita Is Awesome!,
By Bud Kraus (Nutley, New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
How could anyone not love Anita Hollander and everything she brings to "Still Standing?"If you want pure entertainment, an awesome voice with spectacular style and breadth then buy her CD. Besides, Anita is very funny. True, I have heard Anita in cabarets in New York City and the live version is better than any CD rendition. But whether she's live or Memorex (as they used to say) you sit there and listen to a wonderful voice with a wonderful story. I think it is the Japanese that say "out of tragedy comes opportunity." Anita is a living embodiment of such thoughts. When I hear her I usually have a catch in my throat, a tearing of the eyes and a laugh out loud chuckle. Any performer who can do that is a genius. And if you don't laugh at the line about how she keeps her popcorn warm in movies you better check your blood pressure to make certain you're still alive! The only question which remains is how do I get amazon to tell me when her next CD is available?

Songs of Survival Touch Your Heart,
By Maurice J. Moran Jr. (Rahway, N.J.) - See all my reviews

When I first heard Anita Hollander sing, I thought this was too incredible to be true. That reaction continues every time I listen to "Still Standing". From the up-beat "Walkman" to the chilling "Funeral for a Replaceable Part" and through the humor of "The Phone Call" and "Mommy is a Mermaid", she makes you smile, laugh, cry, and, in her words, "just glad to be alive". "I Want To Be There" should be a hit single, celebrating the ideal of love and life. "Still Standing" is still spectacular.

Standing Tall,

There is so much to say, and this thing limits me to 1000 words. Well, we'll see what happens. I purchased this CD after seeing Ms. Hollander live at my high school. She came to speak to my group of "Peer Counselors" (a group of students who act as advice givers and just plain peers to talk to). She walked up on the stage, and none of us new what to expect. We had been in our Campus Center all day, and we all were itching to go home. She opened up the show, and right away, she had us captivated. She got our attention fast, and was a joy to watch her. Her songs describe her life in wonderfully poetic detail. Not only are her lyrics effecting and crafted in a humorous way, but her melodies are also moving and catchy. When the two combine, magic happens. I am particularly partial to "That's The Way It Is," a bluesy number with killer harmonies, accompanied by the quiet yet brilliant art of finger snaps. Not only is she a musical genius and an inspiration to anyone who has ever faced adversity, but she is a wonderfully nice person to boot. I approached her after the show, and she was more than willing to talk to me. A lot of people in her situation would have said "Thanks kid," and keep going, but she was genuinely interested in talking to me. As I sit and write this, I am listening to her CD, and I am enjoying every moment of it. My advice: If you are looking for music that is both fun and inspirational, Anita Hollander's "Still Standing" is definitely for you!

Personality + Talent = Anita!,

This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
Having heard Anita Hollander perform in cabarets, musicals, and in other venues, I can honestly say she is a unique talent. The quality of her voice is enhanced by the vibrant, warm personality she projects throughout the performance. She is a genuine songstress who is so pleased when an audience responds to her renditions, and who is more than happy to talk with you afterwards about your reactions to her performance. Tell all your friends -- I wish everyone could know how wonderful she is!

Anita Hollander, one-woman show, vocal music, story,

Anita Hollander wrote, produced and performed "Still Standing". It is an audio of her one-woman show by that name. Anita got cancer when in college, and had to have an above the knee amputation. This is her story, from the time she was diagnosed with cancer until the time the CD was made. Anita has performed "Still Standing" all over the country (and, I think, in some places outside of the USA), including a performance at the White House. She tells her story with poignancy and humor, and her voice is beautiful! I'm hoping that someday I can see her perform this, or that a DVD of "Still Standing" will come out. Anita is very busy as an actress, director, writer, as well as wife and mother. Her voice is absolutely beautiful, and the songs she wrote
are unusual and very entertaining. It is easy to want to listen to this CD over and over! Anita has a great talent, with a large dose of humor and courage.
