3.0 out of 5 stars Good sophomore effort, but not up to par
It would be unfair to say "Still Standing" wasn't as good as "Soul Food." It is probably impossible for the Goodie MOb to measure up to their debut. With that in mind, "Still Standing" is still a good album, although it lacks the musical and spiritual bang that "Soul Food" packed. Don't get me wrong, though, there are definitely...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of Da Best, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
If you love Soul Food then it don't get no better than this right here. This will be a classic for all Dirty South Fans. I just wish that Cameron (Big Gipp), Wille (Khujo), Terrance (T-Mo), & Thomas (Cee-Lo) can Reconcile their differences and come together again.

Goodie's sophmore release that didn't fall short of Soul Food's success with another classic. Still Standing has a message within and still remain street without becoming watered down. Even with the production debut of members Cee-Lo on "Ghetto-ology" featuring Cheifton and T-Mo on "Greeny Green" featuring Witchdoctor they still came out with a southern sound that cannot be duplicated. As most of the production was held down by Organized Noize and Mr. DJ they overlayered their beats with live instruments to give it a more fuller effect. In a genre that degrades women there's upliftment and healing in "Beautiful Skin" with the message of "...you gotta respect yourself before I can..." "See You When I See You" displays their talents in this almost interlude as they get the crowd involved. This lp should be a prerequesite for any rapper/emcee entering the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Hip-Hop Albums Of All TIme!!!!!!!!, July 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
One of the most underrated albums in the last 10 years in HIP HOP. Arista Records seriously dropped the ball with this one. Had it been handled the right way, these boys would still be funking as a cohesive unit today. This is an amazing record that is right up there with the great Hip Hop Classics. Before Kanye West there was Goodie Mob. Its ironic, if this album came out now it would be a smash. Slum Village, Black Eyed Peas etc. are enjoying success when at one time they were like Goodie Mob on the margins of HIP HOP. Its crazy this album is like Aquemini's Brother ya feel me? Anyway its a classic and it was the soundtrack to my life in 1998. It means so much to me because it was the year my MOM died and this record gave me the power to go on. "Still Standing, Unscathed pain is for suckers to feel...." It actually made me cry sometimes because it echoed all my feelings as a Black Man in this country. I pray that these brothers will get back together and change HIP HOP again.....

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic next to Soul Food, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
Standout tracks: THE EXPERIENCE, BLACK ICE(Andre killed it!), FLY AWAY(Ceelo is a trip),THE DAMN, GHETTO-OLOGY, DISTANT WILDERNESS, GREENY GREEN, SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU, BEAUTIFUL SKIN, THEY DONT DANCE NO MO, JUST ABOUT OVER, I REFUSE LIMITATION, STILL STANDING(great ending to a great album). Filler:None. Bottom Line: Goodie Mob never gets the credit they deserve for what they bought to the rap game(socially and politically conscious records). While other rappers from the south follow the trends set by NWA(after Ice Cube left them) Goodie Mob was talking about s**t of importance. Still Standing stands out as a classic that gave me a geniune respect for a group that could have gone out like the rest of them. Every other song has a gem in them plus the production is super. Unfortunately this is the last album they made of this nature before they went through their World Party phase.

5.0 out of 5 stars best rap cd ever!!!!, October 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
after all these years i still listen to this cd atleast once every other day.from front to back, top to bottom, from 1 to 15,this is a masterpeice.from cee-los gospel style singing to khujos lowtone southern drawl style, these guys are definantly underrated in this rap thang.

cee-lo,where do i even begin.
i hope to god i hear him in some new stuff SOON!!
he sounds alot like al green when he sings, like in inshalla(my favorite song)how he starts out mellow at the beging during the first chorus then on the 2nd he gets gradually louder and brings it up an octave actually harmonizing those notes.then on the last(3rd)chorus,he just wails away.thats where the song climaxes and everything seems to come together and get real intense.when he screams "INSHALLA....WELL AWW RIGHT" i get chills everytime.
"inshalla" by the way means "as the will of god".when cee-lo's rappin,he sound smooth as hell and he knows exactly what hes saying almost like hes preaching."beautiful skin" is another one he shines his voice in.

khujo really shows off his talents in "see you when i see you","the damm",and "fly away".i love his style.sorry to hear about his accident last year though.

big gipps verses in "black ice" and "they dont dance no mo"are definantly highlights in those songs.hes got a really laid back approach kinda like he just blunted up.really cool though.

the only song im not to crazy about is "greeny green".
they have a guest rapper in that song, not sure who he is but in my opinion he aint all that.

as far as goodie mob, most rappers now just sample stuff and rap over it,make a video(showing off there cars and gold)and get there money.goodie mob arent nothing like that.you can just tell listening to this cd that they really appreciate music and aint just pimpin it.it aint just about beats.it has meaning and messages.

as ive said i feel very highly of this cd and if you have this and like it,have people check it out.if you dont and you buy here at amazon, just click on the damn icon and order it and lets hope they get back together...ive heard they are and im crossing my fingers..

The Goodie Mob are lyrical prophets for the 90's. Anybody who believes in righteousness, has environmental concerns, loves his brother, his sisters, and the like should have this wonderfully crafted masterpiece for life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Follow up to a Timeless Classic, June 27, 2001
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
When ya think of Atlanta you think of Outkast and Gooie Mob and the rest of the Dungeon Family. Why? Because they are able to drop albums that stay true to their roots but still welcomes newcomers. Hardcore like me who been down since the beginning know the deal. We already know what they about. Consistent Production and Lyrics combined with memorable hooks keep the Dungeon Family on top. This Album requires thought to get thru. And like Outkast's Atliens some will write it off as wack after the first couple listens to it. Let it Grow on you. That is probably what the picture on the cover indicates: a tree growing. Or it could have multiple meanings but thats a different review. It is not as likable as the first one, Soul Food though. It is sorta hit o;r miss either u will like it or you wont like it. There is no "its aight man" Check the song Black Ice. if you dont like that song there is no reason to buy the cd. THe Soundscape created by Organized Noize wakes u up. Other standouts include Fly Away, THe Damm, They dont dance no mo, Beautiful Skin, Gutta Butta, Greeny Green, I refuse limitation, inshallah, and see you when i see you. Check it out if you are a fan of Goodie Mob. If you arent a fan this wont convice you so try the first one Soul Food. Pick it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars ~Black Ice~, October 15, 2006
This review is from: Still Standing (Audio CD)
Still Standing is another must have record from the GOODIE MOB. All the MC's bring great flows and tons of flavor to each song. From a production stand-point, they continue to bring the sound that we love them for. Don't believe me??? Buy it, you'll see...

Peace!
