Authentic and Insightful,
By Andrew (Southold, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: And It Is Still That Way: Legends Told By Arizona Indian Children (Paperback)
This is a wonderful collection of stories told by Native American children from their perspective. The author, well compiler is a more accurate title, does a very good job of keeping these stories realistic and believable. This a very nice source to begin to get an understanding of the traditional culture of the South West Native Americans.

Beautiful Tales Told Well,
By Nancy "Love to Teach" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: And It Is Still That Way: Legends Told By Arizona Indian Children (Paperback)
Byrd Baylor visited with American Indian children in their schools and asked them to retell the traditional stories that had been told to them at home. The book is a lovely telling of these tales - the voices of the children ring through in Baylor's choice of syntax and the result is lyrical. The legends will acquaint the reader with the culture and beliefs of the native people of Arizona. I was fortunate to purchase this text at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, and I plan to share it with my 5th and 6th grade class.
