Macabre Beauty, June 29, 2009
This review is from: Still Waters (MP3 Download)
The contrast of this song can be seen in so many aspects. The lead vocal is pleasantly raspy, but it is matched with a hauntingly beautiful melody that is barely audible most of the time. The music has a sort of folky, blue grass feel. The strings are delicate and skillfully played but they form the backdrop for lyrics about ghosts, a hymn-singing suicidal drunk, and existential crisis. If you can appreciate the possibility of finding beauty in a song that is both macabre and surreal, then this song will totally captivate you.
