Here's why I like Petey Pablo: he tries to be creative, and he is himself. That is lot more then you can say for a lot of rappers. With the exception of O' its On (which is still a hot song), Petey doesn't try to act like he is the hardest thing since Ron Jeremy discovered [adult relations] (I came up with that one). When Petey Pablo first arrived on the scene with "Raise Up", I thought he was really nothing special (despite the song having an incredible beat from Timbaland). To me, it sounded like Petey was another one of those rappers full of talkin'-loud-but-ain't-saying-nuttin'; a notion that was further confirmed after hearing the follow-up song "I". And, as many people already know, this album was supposed to have come out in 2002 with the lead single "Blow Your Whistle". That song didn't catch fire (I don't even remember how it went), so the album got pushed WAY back. But it finally came out this year.

I personally think "Freek-A-Leek" is a pretty good song. Sure, it doesn't have the most creative subject matter, but the lyrics and music are dope enough. "Vibrate" is pretty good too, but some other good tracks are innovative in that Petey is actually SINGING at times. Now, most rappers shouldn't do that, but he actually doesn't sound that bad. "I Swear", "Roll Off" and especially "He Spoke to Me" are songs that I think are very good. That may not be what some fans want to hear, though, so those tracks may not be your cup of tea.

Despite the good songs on this album, I still have to give it three stars. This is because the album has 17 tracks, and for only five of them to stand out is a cause for concern. Like, when I heard the second track, "Did You Miss Me", I said, "No, if you keep making songs like THIS." And some of these other songs don't make any sense, like "Boy's Bathroom"; and I'm not sure if "Be Country" is a rap or an interlude. There are also some very short songs that go nowhere, like "What You Know About It" and "Stick `Em Up." And "Jam Y'all" suffers from a ridiculous chorus.

Regardless of this album's shortcomings, Petey Pablo did improve his style. But maybe he shouldn't have tried to stick so much filler material on this album and instead just worked more to make a FEW of the songs better. Let's hope he works on his diary some more for his next album.

P.S. In response to another reviewer, if you don't like rap, don't review the album!

When you listen to a Petey Pablo album, you know he's having fun and he's putting his all into the album and doesn't care if people like it or not. Petey's second solo act has hot beats by lil' Jon (whose beats all sound the same but some come out hot), Timbaland, Kanye West, Mannie Fresh, and T&J productions who produced Boy's Bathroom which I'm definately feelin'. I also like how he split the cd up with the faster paced tracks in the begining and the slower, but still relatively upbeat, songs at the end. The clowns who gave the cd one star probably bearly listened to it. Actually, I guarentee the one kid never even listened to the cd but still reviewed it. If your going to say something sucks, try it to see if it actually sucks. Until then, your opinion is worthless and we all wasted our time having heard it. But, if you don't even like rap music, here is quick tip for you: don't listen to rap music, and don't waste your time writing reviews for rap cd's. It may seem difficult at first to pull yourself away from rap music if you don't like it, because then you will have nothing to whine about. But, I guarentee that if you follow my two step program, and stop listening to rap and stop crying about it in your reviews, we will all be better off. (...)

4.0 out of 5 stars Petey Puts Out a Great Sophomore Effort, May 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
Petey Pablo is a rapper who does his own thing. His songs are his own and he brings an individuality that is almost gone from hip-hop these days. These days everyone wants to be Fifty Cent, 2Pac, Biggie. They are all three legends, but to really make a mark in this game you have to be original. Petey delivers. As far as the album goes:

1. Part 2 - 4/5
2. Did You Miss Me - 3/5
3. Jam Y'all - 5/5
4. Freek A Leek - 5/5
5. O It's On - 5/5
6. Let's Roc - 4/5
7. Stick 'Em Up - 3/5
8. Get On Dis Motorcycle - 5/5
9. Break Me Off - 3/5
10. Boy's Bathroom - 3/5
11. U Don't Want Dis - 4/5
12. What You Know About It - 3/5
13. I Swear - 4/5
14. Roll Off - 4/5
15. Be Country - 4/5
16. He Spoke to Me - 5/5
17. Vibrate - 4/5

3.0 out of 5 stars Should've Been Stronger, But Not Terrible (3 Stars), August 30, 2004
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
Though I don't agree with his approach, I'd have to say that Mikky Mouse is telling the truth. This album is typical pop rap. Though his 1st album wasn't anywhere near classic, it showed some promise. This album fails to follow through on that promise. When I heard "Freek A Leek" I assumed that Petey hadn't missed a beat........that is until I unwrapped the CD and put it in the CD player. There are a few good songs on this album, but there are some pretty bad ones on here too. Remember on his first album when Petey said that he makes hot songs without talking about rims and ice? Well apparently he suffers from amnesia because "Did You Miss Me?" feat. Baby & TQ is about....yep, you guessed it....rims and ice and the only saving grace on the song is a decent beat from Mannie Fresh. "Vibrate" was a huge mistake and I'll just leave it at that. "Part 2" sounds like the ugly, deformed, redheaded stepson of "Raise Up" from his 1st album. A lot of the beats on this album sound like generic throw away beats from an old Trick Daddy album or something. Lil Jon supplies a tight beat for "U Don't Want That", but Petey totally wasted it. Timbaland supplies a hot beat for "Get On This Motorcycle", but Petey's lyrics are wack. The song is actually saved by Bubba Sparxxx.....maybe. Petey does come back down to earth though on tracks like "Be Country" and "He Spoke To Me". They are both songs that remind us all of the promise that he displayed on his first album and offers small doses of the brilliance that he is capable of. We all know that "Freek A Leek" is a tight song and Young Buck of G Unit drops some heat on "O It's On". For every terrible song, there's a good one to make up for it. Overall, the album is average. The bad things and the good things about this album have equal impact. I'm not saying that the album is wack just because it's pop, because that's a lame reason. Pop artists can make good music (see: Outkast....and yes, they're pop). Though there are some decent tracks on this album and even though this album isn't terrible, I'd only reccomend this to the die hard Petey Pablo fans.

Standout Tracks: Freek A Leek, Get On Dis Motorcycle feat. Bubba Sparxxx, O It's On feat. Young Buck, Be Country (My Favorite), and He Spoke To Me

Give the boy a round of applause. This is a great album, with a few nice surprises from "Birdman" and others. Great beats, and a "Crunk" sound. 2 thumbs up here. Add some diversity to your collection with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't leave this CD in the changer, the homies will steal it, May 10, 2004
By
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
First and foremost, this album if off the chain! Petey kept teasing us on a weekly basis, constantly pushing his album back...but you know what? I ain't mad at him - no more, no how. He took his lyrics to another level when he got on his "Writing Horse" and did what he has done.
The only track I have a problem with is the one featuring Young Buck from G-Unit. It's a little too harsh for me and I get confused with the direction of the song. His point can easily get lost and misunderstood and some may find it offensive. But the tracks that got me head bobbing at the beach this past Sunday were:
"Did You Miss Me"
"Freek-A-Leek"
"Stick Em Up"
"Git On Dis Motorcycle"
"I Swear"
"He Spoke 2 Me"
The entire album has me respecting this man. He takes you on his journey from his walk with the boys, to the girls, to the Lord. You, the passenger, see everything, from his pains to his joys and many lessons of misunderstandings to understandings.
His style is laid back but always deep. He hits on points other artist miss because they are too busy trying to sell records, not knowing that a little bit of this...and a little bit of that, is what sales records.
If you cop this but failed to get his first joint....turn your (...) round and go back into the music aisle. This is one man you don't want to sleep on.

4.0 out of 5 stars WAY BETTER THAN HIS FIRST!!!!!, June 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
This album is a whole lot better than his first album. So if you liked his first album than you'll defintely like this album. He still has some pretty lame chorus's but he spits some hot verses on this album.

I think I gave his first album one star.... I hated that album, I think I liked maybe 3 songs (Raise Up, I, & Petey Pablo) I gave this album ANOTHER chance; and its a little more listenable, probably about 3 stars.

Some standout songs on this album are:
1- Part 2
4- Freek-A-Leak

5- O its on feat Young Buck
8- Get on dis motorcycle feat Bubba Sparxxx
11- U Dont Want Dat feat Lil Jon (MY FAVE)
12- What You Know About It

The rest of the songs are also good but these are my favorites. One thing that you got to get used to with Petey is his choruses. Sometimes they can be weird or just straight up stupid.

Even is u didnt like his first album, give this one a listen you may be surprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still writting, and better than before..., January 20, 2005
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
Petey Pablo is a lyrical genius. His rapping is amazing and it tops anything he's ever written before. for all those that are dissin him, they can go back to their p*ssy rap like nelly and, ja. This is what I think...

O Its On 5*- Definatly the best song on the cd, Probablly the best song he's ever wrote, young buck just makes it that much better.

Part 2 5*- Probablly ties for the best song on this album. This songs destroys the original raise up, with better lyrics, and a similar, but much better chorus than raise up. Definatly one of his best songs.

Did You Miss Me 2*- Song is alright, chorus is chessy and gets annoying. Bad song, don't know what he was thinking, must have wrote it on the tiolet.

Jam Yall 4*- Really good song lyrically, catchy, if chorus was better, song would be a classic.

Freek A Leak 5*- Awsome song, not the best on the Cd, but it is very catchy with funny and cacthy lyrics as well. He deserves a 5 because who would have ever thought saying a bunch of name can make youa millionare.

Lets Roc 4*- Classic Petey. Song has catchy chorus, and pretty cocky and funny lyrics.

Stick Em Up 3-4*- Good lyrics, pretty funny too, good chrous. average song.

Get On Dis Motorcycle 2*- Chessy chessy chorus, just repeats get on this motorcycle, pretty stupid name of a song too but is listenable.

Break me off 5*- One of the better songs on the CD, catchy rapping, chorus is awsome, missy elliot adds something to the song as well.

Boys Bathroom 5*- Does it again, this song has catchy rapping and chrous, and its definatly the syle he had on the cd before, fast and catchy rapping but not too fast that it sounds bad.

U Don't Want Dat 2*- Very unoriginal bad rapping with an ok chorus, does get annoying.

What You know about it 3* Chorus is ok, rappoing is average as well.

I Swear 5*- Very unlike petey pablo before, catchy chorus, rapping and outro, slower song and he pulls it off greatly.

Roll Off 4.5*- Sounds a lot like I swear, which ios why it gets 4.5*. Catchy everything.

Be Country 5*- very good soft song again, im suprised they aint playing this stuff on the radio, great song lyrically, awsome country and very cathing, itll be in ur head all day.

He Spoke To Me 3*- Good song, the beat isn't cathy though, sound like hes talkin yet the song is good and relaxing. Gets a 3 because it sound so much like the last three, when i was listening through the cd, didn't even know the track changed.

Vibrate 3*- good song, the reason i give it a 3 is because im mad they exposed this cr@p over the other songs on the radio.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review Of Petey Pablo's Still Writing In My Diary: 2nd Entry, November 28, 2004
This review is from: Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry (Audio CD)
Petey Pablo released his debut album in 2001, it was entitled Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry. Petey Pablo came back in 2004 with the release of his sophomore album entitled Still Writing In My Diary: 2nd Entry (which deserves 3.5 stars.)From the three year wait for his sophomore album Petey Pablo became more lyrically talented.
*I will rate the following tracks on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best.*
-Part 2-Has the intro on it which kinda bumps off a star, but the verses are great, the beat is great, but the chorus lacks something. 8/10

-Did You Miss Me-Features Baby and TQ. This is an average song with an average beat. Since this track features Cash Money members it lacks lyrically. 6.5/10

-Jam Y'All-Great song. Good beat, good lyrics but chorus could've been better 8/10

-Freek-A-Leek-First single off the album. Great beat and lyrics. 10/10

-O It's On-Feat Young Buck of G-Unit. Simply one of the best tracks because of YB. 10/10

-Let's Roc-Great lyrics and beat. 9/10

-Stick 'Em Up-I love stick up songs they're the best! 10/10

-Get On Dis Motorcycle-Feat Bubba Srarxxx. Bubba drops a hot verse but he can't save the rest of the song lyrically. 7/10

-Break Me Off-Feat. Missy Elliott. Horibble track cause of Missy, she ruins every song she's on! Rated 3/10 becuase Petey Pablo has good verses and good parts in the chorus.

-Boy's Bathroom-Chorus is lame but verses are hot! 6/10

-U Don't Want Dat-Feat. Lil Jon. Hot Crunk Beat! Good lyrics by Pablo 7.5/10

-What You Know About It-I will say that this is an average track, nothing special. 7/10

-I Swear-Great Lyrics, good beat. 7.5/10

-Roll Off-One of the best tracks lyrically and one of the best beats. 10/10

-Be Country-Chorus is repeated a ton! Nice southern beat. Interludes within the song after each chorus. 8/10, cause of the beat.

-He Spoke to Me-Bridge is repeated a lot. But other than that it's a hot song! 9/10
-Vibrate-Don't like the beat or the girl in the song but it still deserves an 7/10

~SO THERE YOU HAVE IT, IF U LIKED PABLO BE4 YOU'LL LIKE HIM EVEN MO' ON THIS SOPHOMORE SET.~
