4.0 out of 5 stars The finest in goth rock, February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Stimulation Festival (Audio CD)
Stimulation Festival is more accessible than the group's earlier work (if you can find it) but no less scary. They are masters at phantasmagoric landscapes of effects, samples and electronic noodling. But they also have a sense of cultural appreciation, melody and they also know how to rock. The viscous mix of gloom, noise and power chords makes perfect accompaniment to a halloween metal party or as background music for fetish night at the local s&m parlor's dungeon room. Compared to the Pain Teens, Marilyn Manson is a crude punk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inside a mind in chaos, July 18, 2009
This review is from: Stimulation Festival (Audio CD)
The Pain Teens' forth full length cd contains more dark visions of chaos and mayhem, provided by Scott Ayers' dark sonic landscapes of distortion and psychedelic wailing guitar feedback, and Bliss Blood's creepy whispered tales of anguish and desire. This record is probably their darkest of all, probing into the minds of schizophrenics and sociopaths, from the perpetrator's and the victim's perspective.
"Living Hell" and "Bruised" tell the stories of abuse with throbbing percussion and quasi-metal guitars, while "God Told Me" and "Shallow Hole" try to plumb the secrets of disturbed minds for reasons behind antisocial behavior.
"Indiscreet Jewels" returns to Blood's arena of sexual conquest, "Daughter of Chaos" is a powerful "Lady of Flame"-style rap which could have been sung by Kali, and strange cut-up vocals of evangelists and forgotten radio voices haunt the tracks "Dog Spirits", "The Poured Out Blood" and "The Dead Cannot".
There is even a version of ancient blues classic "Hangman's Rope" where the criminal meets his inevitable fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars most amazing by painteens, June 28, 2009
This review is from: Stimulation Festival (Audio CD)
Stimulation Festival is by yet the very best album by Pain Teens. Growing up in Houston, T.x., i used to go see them play live at one of the local clubs. This is an amazing group. Slowly dark, but yet inviting a grey unknown place to hide behind speaker cabinets. This modern grown stage up of ghostly puppets plays it best. This album will never expire.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD by a great group
This is an EXCELLENT CD by an excellent band, especially if you are into such noisy, free-form punk as the Butthole Surfers or Crust. Read more
