Low Quality Music. Don't buy it.,
By El Barto (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sting Piano Solos (Paperback)
I should have read the review by songsrus before I purchased this music. First of all, the music itself is far from the original. For example, in case of "Shape of My Heart", I was expecting that the left hand part would be playing the beautiful arpeggio. Instead, it was so simple and dull. When you played it, it sounded like a different song ! Second, the quality of the music. If it sounded quite different but musical (or creative), it could have been OK, but the artistic quality of this music is the lowest quality I have ever seen.

Sting Piano Solos -- Just one of the multitude,
By "songsrus" (Champaign, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sting Piano Solos (Paperback)
I looked forward to this book as an augmentation to Sting's original pieces, which often are creatively thoughtful. However, these piano arrangements, though long enough to tempt one to expect a little intrigue or at least some interest just around the corner, are overly simplistic and boring, with each repetition of a section merely repeating what has already gone before without any new interest or significant embellishment. Oh, they do contain written out complicated rock/pop rhythms, which a beginner might find hard to read, if he/she didn't already know the sound of the song. But the overall sound of the arrangements doesn't measure up, nor would you get any real exercise of pianistic skills when playing them. Instead what you get is something that sounds as if it was dashed off without much contemplation, painting Sting's music with a hollow, lack-luster brush. This might be enjoyed by someone with limited piano ability, or you could try adding some other instruments to the mix, but then, these are supposed to be piano SOLOS, and standing alone, for anyone with even medium or more ability, these arrangements lack interest or challenge. You would have to fill them out or vary them on your own in order to create enough interest which would last throughout the piece. Instead of buying this book, any real pianist could probably do better by just buying the CD's and creating one's own sound of the music from diligent listening. You would have to do that anyway in order to make these renditions sound good.
