Horrible Design,

This review is from: Stinger FP15 1/2-Acre 15 Watt Flat Panel Bug Zapper (Lawn & Patio)
I can't imagine who thought this design would be a good idea and I can't believe I bought this product. Most zappers have an electric grid that surrounds the light, not this model. Bugs are attracted to the light at the top portion of the zapper and the electric grid is below, essentially rendered ineffective. As if that wasn't enough, there is a plastic plate between the electric grid and the light. This zapper will attract bugs but won't zap them. I also saw a gnat land and prance around the grid. It felt like he was taunting me.

I bought this item and it only zapped 1 bug. If anything some spiders have made a home in it. Don't waste your money.

Works as advertised,

This review is from: Stinger FP15 1/2-Acre 15 Watt Flat Panel Bug Zapper (Lawn & Patio)
Good thing I bought this device at my local Ace Hardware before reading these reviews, otherwise I wouldn't have made what turned out to be a good purchase. Bottom line: as long as you use this bug zapper as directed and advertised, you'll be pleased. It is very effective against mosquitos even without the lures. I placed the zapper about 25" from my house (which is on Florida conservation woodland) and near the treeline. It's hanging on a hanging plant pole. After the first night of use, there were lots of remains laying on the ground and the metal filament was covered with about 200+ dead mosquitos and an assortment of small moths and other winged insects. That's without using the lure. It surprises me how many mosquitos were attracted to the light.Reading the other reviews, it's shocking how many people fail to use a product how it's designed and wonder why they aren't getting good results. One person bought it for bees - sorry, it's not designed for that! And no, you can't put it on your balcony because the instructions tell you NOT to place it near your house or walls. You're supposed to hang it 7' above the ground and 25' away from your house. This serves two purposes: it makes the bugs have to fly up into the wire mesh to get to the light and it also keeps the unit away from lights near your house, attracting the bugs only to the zapper. Also, you're supposed to turn the unit on at the start of spring and keep it on all season long. Anyone who claims to see only 1 bug zapped clearly hasn't followed the directions. All in all, I'd say this bug zapper is very effective at a low pricepoint, especially with mosquitos. A good buy.
