Product Description

Package Quantity: 1

The 40-watt black light bulb increases catch by over 40% than traditional ultraviolet white light bulbs. The Octenol lure helps attract mosquitoes and other blood seeking insects by emitting a sent similar to a large mammal. To help save energy the Ultra Bug Zapper showcases a sundown sensor that turns off the zapper during the day when there are no mosquitoes. An easy to see indicator switch lets you know when the zapper is working.

I called, and they had me return the unit to them for repair or replacement.

I purchased two of these units last season and low and behold, this season as of two days ago, one of the units stopped working.

I was assuming the bulb had burned out since the power light to the unit was functioning.

I bought this product after a friend's recommendation last spring. I placed it on a far corner of our deck and it did work well at killing insects. However, the grid quickly becomes clogged with dead insects and killing power is reduced drastically until you clean it with compressed air. Then, this spring I went to put it out again and the unit won't operate. I bought a new UV bulb thinking that was the issue, but it still doesn't work. Called customer support and they tell me it's likely a bad starter. Now I have to deal with returning and waiting weeks for my unit back. Get a Flowtron instead - my neighbor has had one for years!!

Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem which is a big disappointment to the manufacture of these bug lights. I bought this one in March, plugged it in and chose the "sundown" option where the light would turn on at dusk. I noticed it working fine ... for about two weeks. I was assuming the bulb had burned out since the power light to the unit was functioning. I bought a replacement bulb for another 20 bucks or so, replaced the bulb tonight and had no luck. I've been a fan of the Stinger for quite a few years but this ULTRA model is apparently nothing but garbage. Yeah, it's going to work great for a while but don't expect it to last. Definitely NOT worth the price tag ... in this case, pricier does NOT mean "better."

I don't typically write reviews, but, when I saw the others, I felt a responsibility to do what I could to warn others. I actually already owned one of these zappers (I purchased the indoor/outdoor combination from Costco), but I "thought" I needed a new bulb, which is why I was checking Amazon out. After a month or two, the solar sensor did not work anymore, causing the unit to stay on 24 hours a day. I didn't mind that much, since I had a timer for this anyway. Now the light, I thought, burned out. After reading the other reviews, I'm not going to invest any time and money in a light bulb to see if it that is even the problem. I also found a huge issue with the bugs not falling out of the grates, so I would spend several days a week using compressed air to dislodge them...into my hair and clothes! I appreciate reading reviews from others and we always find it helpful to do so. Like another poster, I, too, feel that a Flowtron is a much better purchase...the bulbs lasted for a long time, there was NO issue of the grates being stuffed with dead insects and it was durable. That's where I'm turning to next.

This product is not worth the price. It quit working after about 45 days, so my husband decided to check it out and found that the design was poor. The auto on board was not sealed off, which allowed moisture to enter. It is just not worth the money. Keep on looking for another brand that will hold up.

This thing is awesome. I was very happy with my old Mosquito Magnet until it stopped working, and I had not heard that these zappers no longer made any zap-noises. I didn't do an exact analysis, but I assume I'm saving a lot of money on energy, based ont he bulb wattage ans how often I had to put another 20 lbs of propane into the magnet.

This can be set two ways - day & night or just night use. The "switch" is very simple, it's just a cover that slides over a photovoltaic cell. The instructions say not to leave it out in the rain, but that is exactly where ours is right now. It will last about 2 years even if you just leave it out. (we're on our second one right now - and this doesn't bother me at all compared to what I spent on the old mosquito magnet). Actually the first one might have had a burnt bulb - never tried to change it.

As for mosquitos, I would say it's a bit more thorough than the magnet. With the magnet, it takes until the 2nd year before you won't get bitten in your backyard. After the first year, you'll see one only occassionally. With the Zapper, even during the peak of the first summer (for one year in between we had nothing), you'll rarely see a mosquito. Now into the 3rd year, I can't remember the last time I saw a mosquito in any corner of our 1/4-acre yard. The the first summer we left it on 24-hours a day.

For placement, too, I put it to the far side of the side-yard opposite the garage, so I can't see it from any window or the back yard. The neighbors asked what it was, but the light didn't bother them and they appreciate the reduced mosquitos. The old magnet had to be in the shade, which meant in the backyard in view of the porch.

For total insects, the zapper of course doesn't discriminate.

I'm on the second Stinger bug zapper.
The first lasted about 6 mos; the second about 3 mos.
The manufacturer only replaces the unit once then you're on your own.
I should have paid more attention to the reviews.
Buy a better unit than the Stinger brand.
The reviews don't lie - these units are poorly constructed and don't last.
They have electrical problems - probably because they are made overseas and without much in the way of "electrical" quality control.
Once they go there's no fixing them.
They are junk...........
