5.0 out of 5 stars Melodic Death for Hardcore Fans. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
If your actually reading this review your curious as to whether you should buy this cd or not. You came this far, now just make the purchase. Trust me, this is one of those rare cds that is flat out essential and years from now will be looked at as a landmark album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music + so-so vocals=good album
Unearth isn't your typical hardcore band. Sure, "The Stings of Conscience" has the aggression and breakdowns that characterize hardcore, but these guys bring a level of complexity and musicianship not often seen in the genre. Unlike many hardcore bands that I've heard, Unearth aren't afraid to include some variety in their sound. I think the comparisons to In Flames...

5.0 out of 5 stars Melodic Death for Hardcore Fans. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!, February 22, 2002

If your actually reading this review your curious as to whether you should buy this cd or not. You came this far, now just make the purchase. Trust me, this is one of those rare cds that is flat out essential and years from now will be looked at as a landmark album.

Musically this album is much closer to Melodic/Prog Death Metal than thrash it up Hardcore. The best comparision would probably be a much heavier and complex version of In Flames. In fact Melodic Death metal has never been this heavy, and Hardcore has never been this melodic. Sadly the band uses typical hardcore vocals, if it bothers you, just pay no attention and focus on the great musicianship.

The title track alone, is a jawdropping collection of beatuiful gutiar melodies and riffs, and is well worth the price of admission. It is by far the best track on the album. But there isn't a weak track on the album either, which runs incredably smooth. This album is about as close to perfect as your gonna get.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to not only fans of hardcore but fans of melodic death metal as well. This album is an awesome find, you won't regret purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best melodic hardcore out there., October 19, 2001
This review is from: Stings of Conscience (Audio CD)
I come from northeastern MA, and watched these guys grow from an decent hardcore band to what they are now, a new type of hardcore band that incorporates In Flames like melodies into heavy breakdowns. The first time I heard this album I knew it was one of my favorites. The only thing that comes close to this album is Undying's "Whispered Lies of Angels."

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome., June 11, 2003

What exactly is it that makes something heavy? I often wonder this when I listen to this album, because for some reason, not much else makes me want to to rip "stuff" up like this album. This album is filled with Gothenburg style guitar parts, rolling double bass, and harsh vocals, with extremely brutal breakdowns and fast, energetic hardcore chunks. The guitar parts heavy, technical and melodic, the drummer puts the double bass to good use, the vocals are fierce, and the lyrics are good and have a positive message.

Let's keep this simple, this beats all other metalcore albums, no contest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Debut From Unearth, June 23, 2005
This review is from: Stings of Conscience (Audio CD)
This album is jawbreaking, jaw-dropping, jaw-crushing, you name it. From the moment I first the album's first track, I felt like my headphones just sandwiched my skull in. This is what I love about Unearth, the ferocity of hardcore with the technicality of metalcore. While I personally would have preferred screaming vocals that weren't "typical sounding", it's still a pretty solid album. As you might have heard, you should believe it, this album has some awesome breakdowns. Some of the best you'll hear in a LONG while. This band's second effort "The Oncoming Storm" is really good...it's also starting to go down that boring sea of metalcore rubbish but they still stand out among the rest.

I'm not a fan of hardcore by any means, but this album kicks [butt]. I'm into stuff like Death, Bodom, Opeth, In Flames(old) and Zyklon. The fact that I practically like no other hardcore but think this album is killer shows that these guys are some talented and creative guys pushing the limits of Hardcore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget bout Hatebreed!, April 20, 2002

This is a new power in metalcore scene. Unearth blends best elements from swedish death metal, NYHC, classic heavy metal and nu metal. A music which will be hated by Drowning Pool-Linkin Pork listeners.

Alright, so it's an amazing album - that's easy enough to say. But honestly, it's one of those albums that should be in EVERY hardcore fans library.

This is one disc that can please the most long-standing "scenester" AND the "I've never been to a show before - hey, like my slipknot t-shirt?" kids

Anyway, buy this cd. And catch them whenever they play (check the Eulogy site for dates - hey! they play in FL soon...oh ya, fl bands own. ask your mom).

I bought the cd after the urging of a friend. At the time, I wasn't really into metallic sounding things. I popped the disc into my car and just drove around listening to the album three times. These guys will blow your mind. This past summer, I finally got to see them, but the week was a blur as I was making some final rounds with friends before we went back to school, so I forgot where I saw them, but they played my face off. It was seriously the best show I have been to in many years. If you like hardcore/melodic hardcore/metal, this should be a staple in your diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the Heaviest Album I've Heard in a While, November 22, 2003
This review is from: Stings of Conscience (Audio CD)
Thrashcore, Gothendeath, melodeath, melamine... Whatever you call it, Unearth's "The Stings of Conscience" is one of the best extreme music albums I've heard in a while. IN A LONG WHILE. I think this album is so damn resilient because it can appeal to so many genre-specific music enthusiasts. For those who like death metal, the songs are extremely heavy and fast paced; for Swedish/Gothenburg lovers, there are brilliant dual-guitar melodies played throughout (no searing leads though, but the playing is so interesting, you won't mind or notice); for hardcore fans, the vocals are intense and furious, but lack the traditional incomprehensible grunts of a death metal singer. Nu-metal enthusiasts, this one may be a bit much for you; and there's no rapping, but what the hell, at least download a song or two; these guys might be to your liking.
Basically, what I am telling you is this. If you love heavy, extreme music (of any sub-genre), go out and buy this cd TODAY. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00.
High points of the album? "My Heart Bleeds No Longer," "Fuel the Fire," and the AMAZING "My Desire." The intro to the latter song is worth the price of the CD alone. I will finish by saying that this this might be the heaviest album I have ever heard in my life, and I have heard most of them. I cannot wait until Unearth's second full-length, and I would probably commit a mortal crime for a chance at seeing them Live.
