5.0 out of 5 stars wow....., July 25, 2007

For fans of Repulsion - THIS is for you. Complete throw back album that sounds as if it was released in 1991. Death Breath features members of Repulsion and Entombed and it sounds alot like that type of material from the early 90's. Great stuff - its good too see bands doing this sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stinking Up My iTunes (In A Good Way), December 4, 2009
This review is from: Stinking Up the Night (Audio CD)
The first release from Swedish death metal band Death Breath finds Nicke Andersson on drums and guitars, Robert Pehrsson on vocals and guitars, and Magnus Hedquist on bass. Other vocals are provided by Scott Carlson and Jörgen Sandström, and Fred Estby throws a scream in. It's very much a return to earlier death metal, no question. And of course, it has zombies. Can't forget the zombies. (No, really, it's pretty much a theme with these guys.)

It's a solid, fun record that doesn't take itself too seriously but nevertheless contains some blisteringly good music. Like I said elsewhere on Amazon, these guys have some serious chops on them, and the quality is high as a result. The mix is great overall, you can hear everything clearly but the grit hasn't all been magically tidied away into the bin. For some reason "Reduced To Ashes" sounds a little quiet to me but that could easily be a problem at my end. Other than that, it's a jolly romp through the cemetery.

My favourite tracks are probably Chopping Spree (it cheers me up), Heading For Decapitation (equally cheery), and the slightly-fancy Cthulhu Fhtagn! (hooray, Lovecraft reference), though I really do enjoy most of the tracks on this release. Dragged Through The Mud I am not so hot for, I think it's the only one that totally falls flat with me. What else...I have the CD, and the booklet has the lyrics in it, which is nice for any kind of music really.

Not sure whether I like this less or more than the second release, the Let It Stink EP, but both are worthy of a listen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hoping for a return to "Clandestine" days..., April 17, 2007
By
This review is from: Stinking Up the Night (Audio CD)
Since ENTOMBED's "Clandestine" is one of my all time favorite albums, I was hoping for something along those lines. Well that's pretty much what I got, minus the intensity and atmosphere though,(Intensity is what makes CLANDESTINE so good). I like the song titles & lyrics and the fact that they're not taking it too seriously. But there's something that is just not very exciting about it. Maybe I expected too much. I have a feeling the next recording might be better.
