Book Description

Monographs on Mathematical Modeling and Computation December 2, 2002
Mathematical methods based on the theory of stochastic processes have long been used effectively in telephone traffic modeling. Today's modern network traffic, which is distinctly different from traditional voice traffic, generates challenging mathematical and statistical problems. Stochastic Modeling in Broadband Communications Systems provides a concise overview of stochastic models and mathematical techniques for solving these problems and enhances readers' overall understanding of communication systems. The book also presents an excellent introduction, particularly for students and professionals in probability and applied mathematics, to a huge area of interesting problems and models arising from modern developments in broadband channel transmission systems.

About the Author

Ingemar Kaj is Professor and Director of Studies in Mathematical Statistics at Uppsala University. Since 2002 he has served as Research Leader of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research on Stochastic Methods in Telecommunications. He was a Steering Member of the Nordic Network on Stochastic Analysis and Applications from 1998-2002 and Secretary of the Swedish Mathematical Society from 1995-1997. He is a member of the Bernoulli Society, the American Mathematical Society, and the NORFA Nordic Network. He also has organized international workshops and developed several national and Nordic Ph.D.-level courses. His research involves stochastic processes (including stochastic particle systems, branching, and super-processes) and applications of stochastic processes to genetics and telecommunication traffic modeling.
