5.0 out of 5 stars Good book to get you started, December 2, 2004

If your just starting out in racing, I highly recommend this book. The sections that are most interest for me were the chapters on driving lines and the chapter on how to read tire temperatures after coming off track. From my view-point since I am the set-up guy, reading tire temps is invaluable. Other than the driver input, this is the only other input you have at the track that tells you what the car is actually doing. Great info in my opinion with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stock Car Driving Techniques, January 12, 2004

I love racing, watching and participating. I like to know about all the technical stuff that other fans might not care about, and this book does a good job explaning all of the thing a racecar driver must know to be successful. Being involved in local racing, and hoping to someday be a professional, I found this book informative and helpful. Aspiring young racecar drivers must read Stock Car Driving Techneques, by Don Alexander. However, the common race fan might not finde the book very interesting. Talk of traction circles and spotter communication might bore some readers. In short, good for racecar drivers, borring for fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Technical Side of Stock Car Racing, February 17, 2011

This review is from: Stock Car Driving Techniques (Paperback)
This book can save the stock driver wannabe many hours of disappointment and frustration. A few hours with this book, combined with some actual seat time in a stock car, should help anyone with a reasonable amount of talent and intelligence become a much better racer. I just wish I'd had this book 50 years ago when I had dreams of becoming a racing star. I didn't have it - and I didn't become a star. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Some of the sections get a little technical - which is good - so be prepared to do some review and to read a few parts multiple times for full understanding. Overall, I give it an "Excellent" rating, especially considering the great photos and diagrams which clearly explain the accompanying text.
