4.0 out of 5 stars If you've never used beeswax crayons
Okay, I thought these hip little beeswax crayons were going to be amazingly better than crayola's. Not really so. Unless softened and warmed up a bit one will actually have to push quite hard to get any color. I do like that they are natural and sturdy -the squares are virtually impossible for little hands to break. If money isn't an issue and the heater is always on, go...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dog Owners Beware! Intoxicating to My Dog
I bought these partially so I could leave them at kid level without worrying about little pieces breaking off/rolling on the floor and getting lost. Well, my Miniature Schnauzer, who would chew up a round crayon once in a while if it were left on the floor--thus my interest in nice crayons that don't roll--is OBSESSED with eating these. Especially the light green. After 4...

4.0 out of 5 stars a fun alternative to traditional crayons, September 18, 2010

I bought these to give the kids some variety. I also liked that they are beeswax rather than petroleum based. My initial impression was that they are a bit smaller than I imagined they would be, but not significantly so. Some of the colors are very difficult to tell apart; the purple, dark blue, dark green, and black all look the same and with no wrapper to help distinguish the color it is impossible to know which is which without starting to color with it. This doesn't seem to bother the kids at all. The kids wanted to color with them right away and are having a lot of fun with them. They seem like they would be very difficult to try and break and they show almost no wear even after many pictures have been colored with them. They should last a very long time. I had read that they would smell nice, like honey, but they smell like any other crayon to me. I wish the colors were a bit different, there are several brownish colors and white which are getting little use but there is no light blue and no pink (although this would make the set less fun for boys). I plan on ordering an individual pink from a waldorf supply website. The tin they come in is very nice, it closes securely and keeps the crayons in order. It's also nice for helping the kids to see these crayons as special and something to be cared for and put away. It comes with a little plastic scraper, it's supposed to be used for scraping marks from other crayons off the one you're wanting to use but we have yet to find a use for it (I put it away so the kids wouldn't use it to carve up the crayons). The shape is nice but it does lead to less precise coloring but it is great for coloring large areas, like sky or grass. Overall I would recommend these to parents of kids over three, kids under two or three could use them (and they're a great shape for little hands) but would need supervision to prevent teeth marks in these pricy crayons.

5.0 out of 5 stars love them...want them for MYSELF!, December 9, 2011

I bought these for the kids to color broad strokes with (full skies, backgrounds, etc) and when I used them, I wanted them for myself. I found myself not wanting to share with the kids. :)

These are great crayons. They seemed a bit expensive to me, however, they are very nice quality and seem to last much longer then regular crayons. A few bonuses I didn't think of until after we received them were: they don't break in half at the slightest of pressure and my kids love that they don't have to peel off the paper. (apparently paper wrapped crayons are an issue)

If you are a waldorf/earthschooling fan, then I'm sure you already have these or know about them. However, if you are not familiar with waldorf schooling and are just stumbling upon these crayons, I'd like to mention that their sturdy quality, ease of use and handy case make them well worth the price that appears to be a bit high at first glance. Especially when you can get run of the mill crayons at the market for a buck. I understand and yet I still think these crayons are WORTH IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality is always best, October 20, 2011

These German made crayons are of superior quality the colors are bright from non-synthetic sources. My children have used them for years. The bees wax is safe, natural, sweet smelling and the shape is ideal for the youngest children (non-breakable). Most wax based crayons are from petroleum and are poor for the environment even if the product is suppose to be safe and non-toxic. Your children and mine deserve the best.

The crayons are very nice. The cover well, the shape gives you a lot of options for line thickness and shading. I just wish there were a few more colors. A true brown, a light blue, and a gray would be nice.

After 4 attempts he has eaten 1/2 of it. SO much for the set of crayons I thought we'd be able to have through my child's entire childhood. I know it is not a flaw that can be blamed on the maker. I just wanted to advise other dog-owning parents that this could happen with you too due to the materials used. It definitely smells a lot more like food to my dog than the cheapo ones did.

These are nice crayons. The shape is good for my toddler to use. They do dull a lot fast than I expected, not having used beeswax crayons before. They're softer than Crayolas. Also, though I like not having wrappers, it is a little hard to distinguish between some colors once you get to the 16 pack.
