Customer Reviews

The rifle stock was not properly attached to the rifle itself.

I bought this air rifle in the hope that it would be a accurate and quieted rifle, yes it is pretty quiet but it has a shot pattern like a shotgun.

Unfortunately, another strong detracting issue is the Stoeger supplied scope is definitely not a quality item.

This has been an ongoing project for the past few months, that is now complete. Yes I know its a long review, but if you are seriously planning to plunk down your cold hard cash on this item, I suggest that you read its entirety. The review has been left unchanged, as all I have done is update...

The updates to this review have been added at the bottom, and my ratings have changed as I discovered and weighed the Pros & Cons of the Stoeger Atac. I begain this review with a 4 star rating based on my initial impressions, with the current rating being 2 stars. Again, I would suggest that you read the entire review for your own edification before purchasing this item. I would also suggest that you call the seller and see if it is possible to purchase the "Gun Only"; as the "Gun & Scope combo" is not worth the hassle at any price. I hope that you enjoy the review as much as I enjoyed exploring this item and rating its Pros & Cons. Enjoy.

Years ago, I test fired the Stoeger X10 air rifle. After that fiasco, I pretty much wrote Stoeger off as any kind of a quality manufacturer of airguns. The X10 that I tested was truly a horrible un-impressive product that needed much after market work to make it even passable for any use by the shooter of airguns.

I'm glad that I didn't stick with that initial impression and tried out the Stoeger Atac. For the Sale Price; this product is a very fine quality air rifle produced by the Stoeger Corporation. Basically Stoeger took all the solid attributes of the X20 and combined them with a well designed polymer target stock, mounted a better sighting system in the 4-16 Mil-Dot scope and incorporated the awesome Gas Piston power plant. This has proven to me to be an awesome combination.

ATAC .177. It is amazing to me the wide differences in experiences, by different people, with the identical product. 5 stars to 1 star ratings, all on the same product. How can that be? My experience thus far has been very positive with the ATAC .177. (Better knock on wood), I don't want to jinx my experience. Scope. . .no problem. Trigger. . .no problem. Accuracy. . .no problem. Close range (10-20 yds) no problem. Longer distances (50-75 yds.) no problem. I adjust my expectations as I increase the distances shooting. Larger targets are still hit at longer distances which is more in line with MY expectations Of course, 20-45 yds, I expect to be right on (quarter or less size groupings). Have tried several brands of pellets and with much patience, the pay-off meets/exceeds expectations. Predator Metalmag 8.5 gr, Predator Polymag 8 gr, JSB Match Diabolo Exact 8.44 gr, H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 9.75 gr, Crossman Premier Ultra Magnum 10.5 gr, even Gamo Red Fire 7.8 gr. All deliver similar results. When in a hurry and at a moments notice, I have grabbed any of the above to take out a pesky Varmit with no problem at fairly close ranges (10-20-30 yds). When reading this review, you must factor in my particular needs & shooting expectations with this rifle. All shooting has been limited to backyard mostly (45 yds across). Find the ATAC to be relatively quiet as well. Family property 2hrs drive from my residence allows for greater distances (50 + yds) where target shooting is the primary experience. I'm not trying to shoot something or at something the length of a Football Field! So with that, this is a good, solid, accurate rifle for the money that I expect to enjoy for quite some time. Want to purchase the .22 to compare the two side by side, and experience for myself results vs what I have read in the many online reviews. I might add, PA has delivered as expected, very fast shipping, good packaging.

Size Name: 0.177 cal.Stoeger ATAC Suppressor with gas ram ... Verified Purchase
The scope on the first unit I received was bad. I had horrible accuracy issues and couldn't zero it in. There was a distinct thunk when I tapped the scope with my knuckle. I sent Stoeger an RMA request and they mailed me a new scope (4 days in hand). I'm VERY happy with the replacement and I'm hitting same hole targets at 10-15 yards and <1" groups at 25 yards (my technique still needs some work). Overall this is an excellent air rifle with two minor drawbacks,

1) My scope was bad
2) the breach is very tight and mine prefers JSB Diablos (multiple types) over all other types of pellets. I have difficultly loading Crosman Premier match pellets as they are harder and more difficult to insert into the breach. I've read of folks chamfering their breach for a better fit, but I don't want to have a situation where the pellets are inserted too far as it will lead to slapping of the gas piston into the breach due to pressures being too low (G00gle for description).

I can say that I'm pleased with the purchase, the two year warranty coverage and Stoeger's excellent technical support and RMA group. If mine had come with a good scope out of the box, this would have been a 5 star review!

I bought this air rifle in the hope that it would be a accurate and quieted rifle, yes it is pretty quiet but it has a shot pattern like a shotgun. I tried 5 different pellets from 5 different companies and all with a different weight grains and all with the same result( all over the target) I put a target out at only 20 yrds and once I would have the rifle sighted in to one of the pellet types( hitting within a golf ball size area), the next 10 shots would be all over the target, some were 5-7 inches from where my point of aim was. I did a lot of research on what pellets shoot best out of this rifle and purchased them, I'm $30 in the hole on pellets that I could throw at the target and get a tighter pattern than this gun would ever get. Maybe I got a lemon but I doubt it.

PS: I want my money back
