This has been an ongoing project for the past few months, that is now complete. Yes I know its a long review, but if you are seriously planning to plunk down your cold hard cash on this item, I suggest that you read its entirety. The review has been left unchanged, as all I have done is update...

The updates to this review have been added at the bottom, and my ratings have changed as I discovered and weighed the Pros & Cons of the Stoeger Atac. I begain this review with a 4 star rating based on my initial impressions, with the current rating being 2 stars. Again, I would suggest that you read the entire review for your own edification before purchasing this item. I would also suggest that you call the seller and see if it is possible to purchase the "Gun Only"; as the "Gun & Scope combo" is not worth the hassle at any price. I hope that you enjoy the review as much as I enjoyed exploring this item and rating its Pros & Cons. Enjoy.

Years ago, I test fired the Stoeger X10 air rifle. After that fiasco, I pretty much wrote Stoeger off as any kind of a quality manufacturer of airguns. The X10 that I tested was truly a horrible un-impressive product that needed much after market work to make it even passable for any use by the shooter of airguns.

I'm glad that I didn't stick with that initial impression and tried out the Stoeger Atac. For the Sale Price; this product is a very fine quality air rifle produced by the Stoeger Corporation. Basically Stoeger took all the solid attributes of the X20 and combined them with a well designed polymer target stock, mounted a better sighting system in the 4-16 Mil-Dot scope and incorporated the awesome Gas Piston power plant. This has proven to me to be an awesome combination.

ATAC .177. It is amazing to me the wide differences in experiences, by different people, with the identical product. 5 stars to 1 star ratings, all on the same product. How can that be? My experience thus far has been very positive with the ATAC .177. (Better knock on wood), I don't want to jinx my experience. Scope. . .no problem. Trigger. . .no problem. Accuracy. . .no problem. Close range (10-20 yds) no problem. Longer distances (50-75 yds.) no problem. I adjust my expectations as I increase the distances shooting. Larger targets are still hit at longer distances which is more in line with MY expectations Of course, 20-45 yds, I expect to be right on (quarter or less size groupings). Have tried several brands of pellets and with much patience, the pay-off meets/exceeds expectations. Predator Metalmag 8.5 gr, Predator Polymag 8 gr, JSB Match Diabolo Exact 8.44 gr, H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 9.75 gr, Crossman Premier Ultra Magnum 10.5 gr, even Gamo Red Fire 7.8 gr. All deliver similar results. When in a hurry and at a moments notice, I have grabbed any of the above to take out a pesky Varmit with no problem at fairly close ranges (10-20-30 yds). When reading this review, you must factor in my particular needs & shooting expectations with this rifle. All shooting has been limited to backyard mostly (45 yds across). Find the ATAC to be relatively quiet as well. Family property 2hrs drive from my residence allows for greater distances (50 + yds) where target shooting is the primary experience. I'm not trying to shoot something or at something the length of a Football Field! So with that, this is a good, solid, accurate rifle for the money that I expect to enjoy for quite some time. Want to purchase the .22 to compare the two side by side, and experience for myself results vs what I have read in the many online reviews. I might add, PA has delivered as expected, very fast shipping, good packaging.

I have had this rifle for over 6 months and all I have done is 'chase the groups'. About the time I get it hitting somewhere close, something comes lose and I have to start all over again. The trigger was absolutely AWFUL so I kept working on it. It has gotten lighter but there is still way too much travel and that cannot be adjusted. The scope is good so I guess I'll go buy a RWS Diana Model 34 then put this scope on it. This rifle has taken years off my life for nothing. IF YOU CARE ABOUT ACCURACY AND NOT TURNING INTO A FREAKING GUNSMITH - DO NOT BUY THIS RIFLE.

First, I normally don't write full reviews, but I wrote this in hopes that it'll help someone make a more informed decision if they are to purchase this air rifle. Second, my only disclaimer is that what I'm writing is in regards to my own personal experience with this air gun.

So, when I finally decided to buy a .22 caliber air gun, after years of shooting my .177, I did a bit of research. During my research I decided to buy this gun over other .22 air guns. When I first saw it I absolutely loved the way it look, especially with the bi-pod legs, so I took a chance and bought it. Now, I did come across reviews about how this gun has a major tumbling pellet issue and let me tell you that after buying it the rumors are absolutely true.

My first impression when I got it I was awe struck. The gun looked and felt absolutely fantastic. My dismay set in though when I got to the range, but not initially. When I first began shooting it I was extremely impressed with how quiet the gun was. All that flash and jazz quickly faded away after a long, tenuous battle with this gun.

My first complete disappointment was at the range. During my research I heard that the scope was a piece of junk that often broke. I didn't mind this too much as I had preplanned to buy a better scope anyways. I was shocked though that after about 30 rounds the reticule came loose and was spinning freely inside. After a few more shots the rear glass to the eye piece completely fell out! I was a bit shocked, but after hearing of the terrible scope I wasn't surprise. That day I had to stop shooting and jumped on Amazon to order a better scope.
