Editorial Reviews

The durable Monte Blue was a romantic leading man of the silent days. He rose to stardom as a rugged romancer opposite Hollywood's top silent stars, including Gloria Swanson, Clara Bow, and Norma Shearer, among many others. Blue became a dependable box-office attraction of the 1920s, playing everything from lawyers to baseball players. Just before his demotion to the ranks of minor character actors, Monte Blue starred in an above-average series of programmers. While Chester M. Franklin developed a reputation early on as a "children's" director. He abandoned this sort of fare in favor of grown-up projects in the 1920s. Though Chester M. Franklin had difficulty re-establishing himself in the talkie era, he finished on a high note with the movies he made in the 1930's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twists And Turns, May 24, 2006
This review is from: The Stoker (1932) [Remastered Edition] (DVD)
This film gets a thumbs up from me because the plot always kept me guessing and I had no idea how it would end up. So many movies are so predictible you can figure out the end from the begining, but not this one that involves divorce, corporate politics, romance, cheating women, the South American jungle and crime all in one short package. Yes, you can tell its' all going to work out well in the end for the lead actor, since this is a Hollywood film, but I dare you to figure out how it will be OK before the movie reveals itself. I also liked the idea of a guy giving up a corporate job to shovel coal because his woman did him wrong.
