Excellent Pocket Guide to Animal Tracking,

This is a wonderfully written and illustrated guide to animal tracks, signs and behavior. Written for the layperson, but packed with useful information, it is a must for any weekend trekker. Although there are no photographs, the illustrations are wonderful for identifying animal homes and signs such as deer rubs, nibbled twigs and of course animal tracks!

The chapters on animal behavior are excellent and truly some of the best i've read. This in itself is well worth the money. However the begining chapters of the book that deal with tracking are rather primitive, and designed for only the true beginner. It states things like "the sex of the animal cannot be determined by the tracks", but any semi-experienced tracker knows this to be false.

This book is one to have if you are a beginning or intermediate tracking student. The animal behavior portion of the book is very good, however there are better books out there for animal clear print identifications (Elbroch's book is the best in my opinion at this )or learning tracking ( Jon Young and Tom Brown Jr has some good books out for this).
