The hinged hanger makes the squirrels very happy, when they sit in the tray it dumps them out, but it also dumps all the seed in the tray onto the ground where the squirrels can eat it! I'm trying to find a spot to hang it where the varmints can't jump on board.

I have this small red plastic Stokes platform feeder hanging close to the tree trunk, and the squirrels enjoy eating from it. They hang upside down on the trunk and reach over and eat out of the platform feeder. Yes, once in a while some seed spills out, but many birds like to eat off the ground, so that is fine with me. Today, I saw that the squirrel had learned how to actually balance and SIT IN the little tray without tipping it, so cute. After several days, he had evidently said to himself, OK, enough of the upside down thing already. I must say that sitting in it requires some balancing skill, since this Stokes platform tray is hung from the middle of the tray.
From the other review I just read, it seems that my squirrel has superior balancing capabilities.
I have seen a few small birds eat from this platform, and they are able to perch nicely on the edge and eat without spilling any seeds.

It is an Ok starter Platform feeder. If you hang it the heavier birds can knock it so that all the food falls out. Easy to clean and i recommend to pole mount it.
