A good design ruined by poor choice of material,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This would have been a great accessory for the Tripp Trapp chair were it not for the poorly-chosen material. Apparently, the baby rails sold in Europe are made of wood, whereas the ones available to the U.S. market appear to be some sort of melamine-like plastic. Although it seems very durable, it is surprisingly susceptible to cracking and chipping. We purchased ours about 6 months ago, and numerous small cracks have already developed along the front-facing edge. A small chunk has actually broken off, leaving a sharp-edged notch.
If enough customers report this problem to Stokke USA, maybe they will produce an improved version. Follow-up (10/2008): Stokke replaced our baby rail with a new one. The new rail is tougher and seems unlikely to crack. Based on the new rail, I'd rate this product four stars.

A must for the Tripp Trapp Chair,

I bought the Tripp Trapp high chair thinking that I could use it with my nine-month old with just the harness that the chair comes with. WRONG! The baby rail is essential otherwise babies flop into uncomfortable positions that they cannot extricate themselves from. It should be sold with the chair in my opinion.

My Stokke baby rail broke,
By The flimsy, plastic baby rail which attaches to the seat of the chair via a think clip broke in half when my infant daughter leaned forward in the chair. My daughter then tumbled forward, hitting her head on the table in front of her and getting caught up in the harness. I do not think the baby rail was manufactured with the safety of children in mind, and I want to warn other parents before they make the same mistake. Despite repeatedly calling and even sending pictures of the defective product, the company has refused to refund my purchase. When I called, the customer service representative mentioned that they have seen this happen on numerous occasions. So, why is this product still on the market?! My anger regarding my child's fall as a result of this poorly-designed product and Stokke's complete disregard for the safety of the children it sells to has prompted me to write this review and warn others of the danger of the plastic baby rail that accompanies the Stokke high chair.

Great for your child's safety,

We bought ours and used it 14 months. No cracks, no problems. It does what it's supposed to do- keep your baby safe and upright in his/her chair. Great company, great product.

Can't really rate the item since I was unable to use it as Amazon incorrectly paired it with the Stokke high chair I bought. They did not go together.

It's needed but...,

The baby rail was definitely useful keeping my active 6-month old in check, however... as she grew older her legs are much chubbier than before and it can be a pain to get her feet in when she stretches her legs. A small peeve is that due to the shape a lot of food stuck on her fingers ends up on the underside of the rail (easy to miss in a quick wipe).
Oh, one more thing, don't think you can skip the safety-suspenders just once because this rail is on the chair. Despite chubby legs, she can get out of there faster than Houdini with a case of the runs. |
