1.0 out of 5 stars Very tight and difficult to get in and out of....
I definitely agree with the negative reviews. I first tried the set with my older son when he was about a year old. He is a little on the taller side, but there was NO WAY he could even get inside with this thing attached to the chair. The baby set actually came with the chair we bought, so I just tossed it in the closet thinking that my son is too old for the baby set...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT product, TERRIBLE instructions..., May 13, 2011
This review is from: Stokke Tripp Trapp Baby Set, Walnut (Baby Product)
I unfortunately, purchased this product without reading any of the negative reviews. If I had read about all the problems people were having getting their baby in and out of the baby seat, I would have probably gone with another high chair. I was very excited when the Stokke box came in the mail and immediately (and quickly) put the chair together, glimpsing ever so quickly over the instruction manual. The next morning, when trying out the chair with my daughter actually in it, I found that I couldn't easily get her in or out of the chair. I was contorting her legs into strange angles to jam her body into the baby set seat. Getting her out of the chair was a challenge and it didn't come without tears and a distraught mom. Now, I couldn't figure out WHY in the world I was having such difficulty and was thinking my 7 month old, 20 lb baby was too big for the baby set until I read online that the seat was suitable for babies 6 months to 3 years old. I then started my search online for videos of the seat, thinking maybe I put it together incorrectly. I also studied the instruction manual, going over all the steps with a fine tooth comb. I FINALLY saw in tiny, tiny print that there MUST be at least a 2 inch gap between the baby's knees and the edge of the bottom board where the baby sits. This small detail is KEY to getting your baby in and out of the seat without tears and contortions. I'm sure this detail doesn't have to be made for all babies but definitely for babies with bigger legs. This 2'' gap creates just enough space for easy access in and out of the chair. Now that I have figured this out, I couldn't be happier with this product. It is very well made and a product that I hope will last for years. I would like to highly recommend this chair but I have to reiterate the importance of reading that fine print. It will save you many headaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for our 7 month old, November 15, 2009
Okay, I was hesitant to buy this for our Tripp Trapp, but as we wanted to use it with our then-5 month old, we didn't have any choices as the old baby rail is discontinued and doesn't fit with the new model Tripp Trapps anyway.

We took the plunge. I have no idea what all the problems described in other reviews are about, because this set works great for us. We have no problems putting our 7 1/2 month old into this chair and baby rail set. We don't have any cushions installed because he makes a mess when he eats and would just get the cushions all dirty. But, we got a good deal and free cushions with the set so I just put them away for later. We don't usually use the seat belt presently because he likes sitting in the chair and doesn't try to escape. He just sits on top of the seat belt for now.

My son is about 27 inches tall and weighs at least 19 pounds. He's a very long and lean little guy. He sits up very well on his own now, but even before he was sitting well without help, he could sit in the Tripp Trapp with the baby rail and eat at the dinner table with us. The rail doesn't make him too far away from the table. In fact, I'm surprised at how far he can reach. We give him graham crackers to chew, and he can put them down on the table in front of him and pick them up as he likes.

We think he likes sitting here and eating so much better than when he had to sit on the floor in the bouncy seat to eat. Now, he's entertained sitting at our level during dinner. Thanks to the baby set which we added to the Tripp Trapp, he can do this at an earlier age. I do have to say that there is a potential for food to drip down between him and the baby rail when he leans back, but we use the Baby Bjorn bibs which have a great tray for catching food drips. Awesome combination, so our son stays mostly clean now when he eats.

UPDATE: My son is now 11 months old, weighs 21 lbs and is 28 inches tall. He still fits in the chair with the baby rail just fine and seems like he has plenty of room to grow. The chair with the rail scoots up to our table very well so he can reach for foods we put on the table in front of him for him to feed himself. I love how he can be right by us as we all eat, and not off to the side with a tray on the front of his high chair blocking him from pulling up to the family table.

4.0 out of 5 stars There is an easy way to use this chair tear-free!, January 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It intrigues me that the prior posters comment on how this seat hurts their babies when they "force" them out of the chair...hello people...all you have to do is pinch the plastic tab of the babyset where it comes through the bottom of the chair seat and then the baby set lifts, thereby expanding the leg holes, and baby can easily be taken out! It did take me a couple of times to realize this but hopefully my comment here will aid a few others; preventing some awkward chair exits and a few tears.

Other than the initial learning curve associated with the above comment, this seat works as it should and keeps our little guys safely seated for family dining. They can both easily reach the table, fingerfoods and cups. We have twins of very different body types (Baby A: 100+% height, 70+% weight; Baby B: 40% height, 20% weight) and both boys have done very well in their seats from about 5 months on (we're almost at one year now). I can easily see them using the baby set up to 18 months (the product recommendation) when we'll transition them to the seatbelt.

I will admit, that it is somewhat annoying to have to clean the crevices where the baby set clicks into the chair but compared to some of the other high chairs out there, cleaning this chair is a breeze! FYI, we hardly ever use the cushions b/c as previous posters commented, it can be a real hassle with having to launder them every day.

And yea...the cost is a little steep. We purchased our chairs from Craigslist ($100 ea.), our cushions from eBay ($20 ea.) and our Baby sets from Amazon ($40 ea.).

I love love love the quality of the product and the overall look.

4.0 out of 5 stars follow the directions, January 10, 2011
We took the plunge and bought the baby set for our then 6 month old for extra safety. At first we too had the problem of getting baby in and out of the seat. But if you carefully follow the instructions and make sure the footrest and seat are properly placed (the seat can't be out more than a couple inches from the base), it works just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE it, but you can't push the seat board out too far., March 31, 2011
This review is from: Stokke Tripp Trapp Baby Set, Walnut (Baby Product)
The Tripp Trapp is irreplaceable for us - our son has eaten with us at the table since he was old enough to strap in. I am wondering if those who have had terrible experiences getting their kids' legs in may have had the seat board adjusted out too far. I was surprised, myself, at how tiny a space is really necessary for a baby to sit comfortably. The back of the chair arches out, accommodating quite a bit of diaper bulk. I'd give an adjustment a try before ditching the chair, for what it's worth--hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is VERY safe!, August 28, 2009

I agree somewhat with the other reviews, it is a little hard to get baby in and out at first. However, this is a great set and VERY safe. My 15 month old knows how to get in and out and he knows to keep his legs straight. Perhaps when baby understands a little better it will be easier for the other reviewers. My hubby used to help at first but now it's a breeze!
My only complaint TOO expensive!

5.0 out of 5 stars read the directions, August 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I debated on buying this for a while, because of all of the negative reviews. We went to a store that carried them to test it out, and they had them put together incorrectly! And I thought "what expensive junk!". When I got home I read every review I could find, and I decided it was worth a try (mostly because of Amazon's free baby returns and all the reviews saying "read the directions!") and installed it according to the directions, and my baby goes in and out just fine! You definitely have to make sure the seat isn't too far forward. I'm not really sure how we could use the Tripp Trapp without the baby set, (our daughter is 8 months old). We love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item for starting out, July 10, 2010
By
I think some negative reviews may come from expectations that this item will last for a long time and are disappointed when their child outgrows it. I think it is a necessary item for starting out and we love it and would gladly repurchase it. It is disappointing that it does not come with the chair, but this way you can mix and match colors.

We got the baby set in green to go with our natural wood chair to have a big more fun with the color and love it. It is great for our 15 lb daughter. She is not able to sit on her own yet but in here she can. We chose to skip the cushion and dont miss it.

This set allowed us to have her in the stokke high chair as soon as she was ready to start on solids. We were then also able to skip the bumbo and other transitional chairs. It has a nice rounded lip on it that baby can grab onto and she seems very comfortable and happy up at the table with us.

4.0 out of 5 stars works for us, September 8, 2009

Joanne (Swizerland) - See all my reviews
I was hesitant to buy this piece as our baby is already a year old, but we know from trail and error that we need a harness or belt to keep him in any highchair. The other reviews here are very discouraging and it's not a cheap extra so we were thinking of just getting another brand of chair altogether. However, when we went to the store, one of the display models was equipped with the baby set insert and harness. We put our son (now 21 lbs) in and out with any problems at all. So far, this has been a great product all around and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, August 18, 2009
This review is from: Stokke Tripp Trapp Baby Set, Walnut (Baby Product)
My baby has been eating solid food since he was 4 months old. At first, I used to sit him on a bumbo chair which he couldn't sit still when I was feeding. So, I bought him Stokke Trip Trapp for his 6-month birthday. It works great. He is sitting like a little gentleman and feeding him twice a day is fun.
I wish it comes with a tray as a set. Had to buy separately. Until he is old enough to use his own hand to feed himself, tray is a must.
