Editorial Reviews

A punk-fueled pre-teen power trio known for dishing out a sweet, high-octane blend of garage, alternative and pop that flat out rocks. As bars and clubs in Brooklyn have begun hosting all-ages shows featuring the best of the young and restless kid-core scene CBOF has fast established it self as one of coolest, noisiest and most exciting indie rock bands around. Seventh-graders Sophie (guitar and vocals), Izzy (drums) and Lucio (bass) met in kindergarten where they mostly ignored each other. It wasn't until they turned nine that they started hanging out in Lucio's basement after school, and with another friend from fourth grade formed the short-lived band Nada Clue. In the fall of 2005 the three re-invented their band as Care Bears On Fire, and the rest is history. Since that time, CBOF has played in rock clubs such as Southpaw, Union Hall and Pianos, pizza joints, school dances, block parties, street fairs and variety shows; basically any place you can plug in an amp. While the San Fransisco Chronicle says that..."inside each of the 12-year-olds beats the heart of a punk veteran," what is most striking about CBOF is the inventiveness, energy and the pure noisy joy the kids bring to playing music. 1 Everybody Else 2 Five-Minute Boyfriend 3 Met You On MySpace 4 Shadow Girl 5 Jack Brown 6 I Must Know Why 7 Vicitm of Rock & Roll 8 8 9 Watchdog 10 You Walk Away 11 Baby Animals

4.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' seventh graders...!?, February 15, 2008

Who needs School of Rock? These New York City seventh graders are well on their way to success with this debut release, and they don't have to play a bunch of crappy covers to do it! Reminiscent of The Donnas in their formative years (as The Electrocutes) and clearly influenced by radio-worthy hits such as Paramore's "Misery Business" and "Crushcrushcrush," there's a lot to like here. The song themes are age appropriate and somewhat expected - "Five-Minute Boyfriend" and "Met You on Myspace," for example - but you don't have to be in junior high to enjoy this. My only real "complaint" is the repetitive song and lyric structure. With a little guidance, Care Bears On Fire could really refine their material. They've clearly got some adult support behind them - the recording is certainly no "walkman in the basement" variety - so hopefully they'll get that guidance and we'll get a killer new record before these kids are freshmen in high school.

4.0 out of 5 stars The kids are alright!, November 27, 2007

If you dig the Ramones, Patti Smith, and all things punk, you'll love these tween rockers from Brooklyn NY. Great pop hooks, punk 'tude, and loud everything! The middle-school spin on adolescent angst, as in "5 Minute Boyfriend" and "Met You on Myspace" set these guys apart from their aging hipster cohorts. Get this now, before CBOF either sell out big time or burn out and fade away under too much homework...

This has become rather rare. This is the prequel to 'Get Over It'. It also contains an earlier recording of 'Everybody Else.' Pick it up before it disappears.
