A Deeply Moving Book (Invaluable for Loved Ones, Too), January 7, 2011
This review is from: Stolen Angels: 25 Stories of Hope After Pregnancy or Infant Loss (Paperback)
Even those who have not experienced a loss themselves can learn so much from this candid, poignant collection. When my sister's son died, I, like just about everyone else, panicked and said all the wrong things, which I deeply regret and wish I could re-do. It is heartbreaking when a child dies, and people can have a hard time responding in an appropriate way that supports the family. Those are treacherous emotional waters to navigate and this book gave so much invaluable insight into the grieving process. By hearing people talk about their losses, how others responded to their losses, and what was helpful and what wasn't, I learned how to better support my sister and not be so uncomfortable with the topic. It has also helped me be more supportive to others who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss when I learn of it.
Many of the stories talk about faith, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was never cloying or overwhelming.
I have recommended this book and the excellent support group blog run by the editor to clients, friends, and colleagues.

An Invaluable Tool for Counseling and Encouraging!, August 15, 2008
This review is from: Stolen Angels: 25 Stories of Hope After Pregnancy or Infant Loss (Paperback)
These stories give you access into the hearts and souls of real people who have been dealt devastating blows but found the strength to overcome. Every hospital chaplain, midwife and obstetrician should have copies of this book on hand to distribute as needed. If you have suffered the loss of a child or if you think you may ever find yourself in the position to comfort someone through their loss, this book is definitely for you. I tip my hat to the brave writers who shared their stories in a much needed effort to heal and encourage others!

This review is from: Stolen Angels: 25 Stories of Hope After Pregnancy or Infant Loss (Paperback)
I was touched by every single story! It was comforting to know that there were other women who knew what my pain was. Knowing I was not alone in my grief, still years later, touched my heart.

After reading this book I felt joy, hope, contentment, and uplifted. I felt as though so many others have gone through this and made it, I felt that I could make it through this as well. I just did not feel alone anymore. I knew that there were people out there that persevered through the storm of loss and truly saw the rainbow at the end of the tunnel. A Must Read Book!!, June 26, 2008
This review is from: Stolen Angels: 25 Stories of Hope After Pregnancy or Infant Loss (Paperback)
I read this book 2 years ago, but the stories still stay with me! Each story is so heartfelt and extremely touching. The author says this is kind of a support group in a book and she is right on! Let me just say this book was so good and helped me heal so much that I bought copies and gave them out to medical professionals who work with parents whose babies have died!!
For an example of what I mean when I say "good" well the table of contents has all the stories listed so you can find ones that are about the types of losses you may have experienced. There are listings for late term losses, multiple miscarriages, murdered toddler, stillbirth, accidental death, and more ... there's even an abortion story. I love that these stories are all true and they are written by parents who have actually been through what you are facing. And the writing just draws you in ... you almost HAVE to read each story from beginning to end! It's not just boo-hoo sad stories ... they share information that I didn't even think about ... it helped me know what to look for before it snuck up on me.
Oh and then there is the self-help section ... it covers everything from what to do the very first moment you find out your baby died to what to do a year later. I almost bought this book for friends since there is a section in there about how to really support a grieving parent (read the what NOT to say part!!).
Although I personally had experienced multiple late term losses (23 weeks and later) I was most touched by the very first story. It was about a young wife whose infant son died from SIDS. It was powerful, but I somehow felt hope after reading it. I found the book's web site and clicked on the author bios to look at pictures of these women who had suffered so much, yet still could share their experience with others.
If I could ask the author to add something to the book I would probably hope for more than two stories from the father's perspective ... I would also like to know how parents cope when they have to go right back to work after their loss.
This book will not disappoint!

First, I'd like to commend the families who shared their stories in Stolen Angels. This work truly touches the heart. While the families share their pain and loss this book leaves you with a sense of strength, hope and inspiration. Several of my friends and family members have experienced the loss of a child and Stolen Angels has given me a resource to share with and encourage them. This review is from: Stolen Angels: 25 Stories of Hope After Pregnancy or Infant Loss (Paperback)
This book was given to me after the birth of my stillborn daughter. As I experienced the darkest moments of my life without my daughter, reading about the experiences of others in similar situations gave me what I needed.. Hope. I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. This book tells the stories of real people dealing with loss, grief, and finding hope. The stories of other's experiences are so memorable and real that they are unforgettable. I always hold them close to my heart. I recommend this book as a gift, or for those that need to know that they are not alone.
