Beth Orton ought to be getting more attention and certainly more songs of hers played on radio. But as is often the case with indie singer songwriters, she languishes on Internet radio or is cross referenced with other female vocalists, which is how I found her here on Amazon.

The persona/speaker in this song makes an analogy between a stolen car/crime spree and the turbulence of a relationship that yet survives.
