Amy's life has been on a downward swing. Not only is she being inept, but her dad is killed shortly after she utters hateful words to him. Then, both she and the small girl she is sitting for are kidnapped by two armed men. For nearly the next week, Amy finds herself struggling desperately to keep the toddler calm and keep them both from being harmed, or even killed as two desperate, greedy men try to get money in exchange for their safe return. Since Amy has seen enough to identify them and she is not especially valuable, whether or not she'll see home again is iffy at best.
**** Even though this is a young adult novel, it's an edge of the seat thriller. Amy is a highly empathetic character with whom anyone who has had a horrible time of it can identify with immediately, You are drawn into the story from the start and no matter what your age, you will be rapidly turning pages to get to the end. **** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore for Huntress Reviews.

Best Book I've Read In A Long Time,
By Lilly Carson-Bailey (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stolen Children (Hardcover)
I am only twelve years old, so what I got out of this book may be different then others. This book was amazing, and had a great ending. (I hate stories that don't have happy endings!)The author, Peg Kehret, is an amazing writer with the ability to create a terrific book by mixing together crime solving, babysitting, and mystery. I started this 164 page book two days before I finished it, because I could hardly put it down. Her characters are truly dynamic and mind-boggling. I would most definetly recommend this book to any girl, and maybe even some boys, between the ages of eleven and thirteen. You are honestly missing out on a lot if you choose not to read it.

I Cried At The End...I Really Did!,
By JoAnne Westcott (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stolen Children (Paperback)
I read this book with my 10 year old daughter for her school book report. It truly was a 'couldn't put it down' type of book. We found ourselves physically reacting to moments in the book...rolling our eyes when one character had information leading to the kidnappers but chose not to get involved. I actually started to cry at the end of the book. This is an entertaining and suspense-filled story.

This book is a great book for children to read. I think it has some valuable lessons woven into a very exciting, easy to read book. I read the book to help my daughter with the Battle of the Books competition, but was surprised to find a very well written short story. It shows that children are capable of great things if they put their mind to it. They are able to show great compassion and maturity if the situation call for it. It also shows that they listen to us more than we think!!! Again, a very easy book with a great story and good lessons throughout.

Stolen Children,

My daughter has this on her list to read, and I thought it sounded a little overwhelming of a topic for 8-12 yr. olds, so I wanted to read it before her.
It was definetely a page turner, and well written. I don't know that it should be for 8-9 yr olds. I was relieved that there was no physical violence or inappropriate language or content, although I think this could be quite a scary topic for a child. I loved how Amy used clues in the DVDs, and got frustrated with all the missed opportunities from different characters who ran into the girls or saw them. I felt that the kidnappers were a little too dumb at times. So my decision....my daughter is 10....I think she'll be okay with it. It's just such a scary topic that is such a reality. Maybe reading about the things Amy did to try to save them would be a good thing.

Stole My Heart,
By Kerri Busteed "Kerri J. Busteed" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stolen Children (Paperback)
Stolen Children is a book for the young to the old. My daughter borrowed this book from the library and I decided to read a bit of it before letting a ten year old read about stolen children. Peg Kehret does an excellent job writting a story for all ages. The story tells of a 14 year old girl who gets an opportunity to babysit for a wealthy families three year old little girl. She takes her responsibility very seriously, especially after letting her father down three months ago just before he died in a car crash. She will never again have the opportunity to prove to him that she can be a very responsible young lady. When both girls are kidnapped, she uses her witts to get them the help they needed to get out alive, all while taking very good care of the three year old little girl.
I am looking forward to reading more of Peg Kehret's books now that I have finished Stolen Children. I brought it along to work and had to be pried away to do my work. I will definitly allow my ten year old read this book and can't wait to hear what she thinks. By Kerri J. Busteed Author of Will's First Hunt Will's First Hunt

I thought stolen children was the best book ever.My favorite part was when Amy was in the car looking for the gun and she couldn't find it.So she had to go back in the house and find it but she had a hard time finding the gun. Then when she found it she had to hide it.And for some odd reason she threw it in the outhouse.Peg Kehret is a really good story writer.

A fine thriller,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stolen Children (Hardcover)
Peg Kehret's STOLEN CHILDREN tells of a babysitter faced with an unlikely situation when two baby-nappers show up. When Amy tries to prevent the kidnapping, they take her too - and she has only a few days to either escape or get help. A fine thriller tells of a spunky girl's resourcefulness against all odds.
