Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The different settings for the stories in this single-volume yaoi collection provide variety in approach and mood. The first and longest is a costume drama featuring two unnamed aristocrats fighting boredom. One, disguised as a masked thief, kidnaps and ravages the other, who then finds ways to meet the thief again. After their teasing, love/hate encounters, the thief downplays the victim's sexual prowess, which only eggs him on. It's like From Eroica with Love, only with a more modern art style and more explicit encounters. The lush lives of these characters provide room for wide romantic fantasy, and the sketchy, suggestive storytelling allows plenty of space for reader imagination around the poetic rogue, a classic seductive ideal. The second story is a generic tale of schoolboys initiating one another into their sexual ways, but the third presents the unusual angle of love between a congressman who's being pressured to get married and his assistant, who's also his boyfriend. The unusual premise will likely make the forced separation between two characters who clearly care for each other more plausible to the reader, even if U.S. culture makes the happy ending not so realistic. 4.0 out of 5 stars The congressman and his secretary stands out in this collection!, September 12, 2007
This review is from: Stolen Heart (Yaoi) (Paperback)
3 stories here. The main one, Stolen Heart, is a regency piece on court intrigues, royalty and aristocracy. The plot started off well and the idea of a mysterious masked handsome thief pairing a bratty aristocrat is romantically appealing. I like Yukine Honami's artwork but here it just doesn't feel regency. The story is somewhat rushed towards the end. The sex could have been much more explicit as there is nothing innocent about the 2 characters. The final chapter on the thief's long lost brother has potential but too bad it is not explored deeper. On the other hand, if I do not compare every regency Yaoi with Yoshinaga's brilliant "Gerard and Jacques" and "Lovers in the night", "Stolen Heart" is a pretty good read.

The second story on a student and the Student Council's President is just weird. Could not understand this or is it the translation again. Good thing this is short. However the hyperactive student is a cute contrast to the laid back Student Council's President.

My favorite is the last story on a Congressman and his secretary, which is really good. Collin is a successful congressman well on his way to be re-elected. And why not ? He is everything a successful politician should be. He is young, handsome, rich and smart with no dirty laundry, except of course his hidden sexual preference. There are some pretty cool political lines here and both Collin and Paul are very likable. I like how it all pans out for this couple.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for fans of yukine honami, April 10, 2010

This review is from: Stolen Heart (Yaoi) (Paperback)
i've been a fan of yukine honami since i first read desire. this book is sort of a grab bag, and the stories themselves are entertaining enough in general. but it's great to see honami's artwork, including her take on french revolution-type costumes and masks. her artwork for the second story fits the typical light-hearted student council-type setting well, but it's in the third story where both the story and the art are distinctly memorable. the plot is about a closeted US senator and his secretary, and it's a great change to see honami draw two adult masculine men together. although it would've been great if the last story were longer, for me it makes this a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars heart, February 6, 2008
This review is from: Stolen Heart (Yaoi) (Paperback)
this was cute. it reminded me allot of Rin and Sweet Revolution in the way the story played out, and it was very sweet. definatly a style in the way of plots, but its not a bad thing, in fact, i thought Stolen Heart was an innocent romance compaired to some of the other things ive read published by June
