I've been a Jimmy Raney fan for years. As a jazz guitarist, I'd have to rate him among the top five who have ever picked up the guitar. It was only when I became aware that he had put out a CD with his son, Doug that I knew I had to have this one. I wasn't disappointed. Jimmy has often been called the "Influence" & it seems he has influenced his son more than anyone else. My favorite tune in this outing is "Stolen Moments" by Oliver Nelson. Notable on the tune is the solo by the bass player Michael Moore, & Billy Hart on drums is solid through all the numbers. Doug's solo on "I Should Care" is masterful, & I was impressed with his crisp sound. Jimmy's sound is a bit more muted. The group finishes off the recording appropriately enough with "Alone Together," & Michael Moore does some great bass work on his solo. 5 stars guys; don't know if Jimmy is still with us or not. I suspect he passed away some years ago. I'm just happy he & his son made this recording. Father & son teams in jazz are very rare indeed.
