Book Description

When Abby Henshaw is brutally attacked by two strangers in the countryside, her first thought is for the safety of her baby daughter, Beth. But what follows is a mother’s worst nightmare: Beth is gone and Abby's world collapses around her. As DI Michael Gardner begins to investigate Abby and her family, he discovers lives built on secrets and betrayals. Under pressure from his bosses to find the missing child and to unearth the truth, Gardner finds himself struggling to stay emotionally removed from the case, and from Abby herself. After the authorities finally shelve their investigation, Abby receives a message telling her where she can find her daughter. But how can she convince those around her that the girl really is Beth when they are the very people she knows least? A gripping and haunting debut, Stolen is a richly imagined psychological thriller from an exciting new talent in crime writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stolen July 23, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is a great, great read. Abby is forced off the road, attacked and her baby is missing. The bok just reaches out and grabs you and it's very hard to put down. We follow Abby thru the years and all the twists and turns in the case as she searches for her daughter. I will say there is so much more to the book but I don't to spoil it if you choose to read it. If you don't read this book, you are surely missing a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely English style mystery - totally absorbing! November 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow this was a terrific mystery. Certainly didn't see it coming. Extremely well written, not one typo or other editorial issue that I spotted in this Kindle edition which I picked up for free on one of the bargain/free sites (thanks ED for this). Will now go looking for what else she has written, and will watch out for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book! August 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked this book a lot. It had some twists and turns in there that kept you guessing. This story makes me look over my shoulder when out with my children. I am now worried that everyone is out to take them from me. lol In other words, it's good enough that it made me paranoid. I would love to read a sequel to this book that tells how the family reunites with the daughter in the years following where this book left off. I'll be looking for more books by this author in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing July 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading the glorious reviews I was a little disappointed when I finished this book. It was suspenseful at the beginning but I found myself skipping paragraphs and entire pages to get to the conclusion - the rather flat descriptions of furniture and teacups couldn't hold my interest while I wanted to know what happened to the baby. Even the the characters were rather one-dimensional. Did none of the male characters have any other nervous habits than "running their fingers through their hair"? I also have to disagree with the other reviewers that the ending was a total surprise. As a big fan of mysteries I absolutely love authors (Louise Penny, Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling just to name a couple) who keep you guessing until the very end. Unfortunately, in "Stolen" not only was it transparent from the beginning who did it, but halfway through the book it was fairly clear who else was involved. In my opinion there was also no big climax at the end - this story should have been a Law and Order episode, rather than an almost 400 page novel. The reason I still gave the book 3 stars and not less was that I paid less than $4 for it and it did capture my attention for the two days it took to finish it.
