Editorial Reviews

Arthur has been a popular mainstay of the blues scene in L.A. for many years. His first album, It's Private Tonight, released in 1972 firmly established the silky smooth vocal presence and guitar style that he's recognized for today. Arthur has recorded with Jimmy Smith, Nina Simone, Quincy Jones, Lowell Fulson, The Crusaders and Bonnie Raitt. In 1991, Arthur played rhythm guitar and contributed two songs to B.B. King's album There Is Always One More Time. King later returned the favor, appearing on Arthur's release Back On Track in 1999. Stomp The Floor features his signature brand of soulful rhythm & blues filled with melodic hooks, classy arrangements and impeccable song writing.

Arthur Adams - Stomp The Floor

Looks like I am the first reviewer here so hopefully some others will chime in to be fair to Arthur on this CD. First off, there is nothing wrong with this music. Arthur is a good guitarist, the rest of the musicians are fine as well. The songwriting is OK too. Unfortunately, the style of music here wasn't my taste which leaves a reviewer with a dilemma. Do you review something that is not to your taste or ignore it and move on? The quality of music might be higher than 3 stars here but the style didn't work for me so I decided to review based only upon how it works for me.

The tracks on this are not really in the blues tradition that I would have hoped for from Arthur Adams. He has a very sweet, soulful voice and plays a good guitar but this is more of a pop/jazz affair than blues music. I would even suggest that this is a cross between 80's style George Benson and James Taylor. If that is your cup of tea, you may enjoy this one. What was lacking for me in this recording was grit and intensity. Arthur holds back from attacking the vocals and the guitar and it's just all too smooth and sweet for me.

Summary: a pop/jazz flavor, not a blues CD. Lacks grit. Would like to see Arthur cut loose on some future recordings in a soul/blues bag which would be more enjoyable to me.
