Editorial Reviews

The Devil Makes Three is back with the long-awaited live album, Stomp and Smash Live at the Mystic Theater. Laced with elements of ragtime, country, folk and rockabilly, the critically praised, drummer-less trio brings forth a genuine approach to acoustic music that is deeply steeped in rhythm. This album features live renditions of the band's hits from their previous three studio records. It also includes two newer songs, "This Life" and "They Call That Religion."

And buy this record! It's solid, from beginning to end. This album will have you stomping your feet and slapping your dashboard in time to the music. Yes, you'll get strange looks from other drivers but the songs are so good you won't give a damn about what anybody else thinks!

I wanted a few of their songs, I wanted a few of their cd's, I did not want to spend 30 bucks on something I wasn't sure I would really like. Live cd, all the songs I wanted to hear and that they believed to be their best at the time, All of them sounds wonderful, and I only had to spend 7 bucks. We all won something on this day, and going forward I'll be happy to buy their music as now I know I love it.

This disc is taken from two live shows held in Petaluma, California, before a screaming, enthusiastic audience. The band responded accordingly and delivered great, high energy performances, including violin accompaniment on some of the cuts. Most of the songs will be familiar to DM3 fans, having appeared on earlier albums, but there are a few surprises thrown in. Casual fans of the band might not need these additional versions. But the music, as always, is performed impeccably and with great passion and energy. If you're not yet a fan of this band, you should be. These guys have taken swing, country western, folk, and a hint of country blues, punked them up, updated the lyrics to fit the times we live in, and created something that, while paying homage to the aforementioned styles, is incredibly creative and original. They are the best band I've heard come up in many years. This old fart has already seen them a bunch of times, and I'll be going again next time they're in town. Buy every single thing these folks have done, including this disc!

Nothing but love for this little bad. I've seen them live 3 times now and each time was better than the last. They are a live band first, one of the few bands that actually sound better in person. Been a fan since the first TDM3 release, and Pete Bernard's solo stuff. I would recommend this album to anyone who digs string instruments, outstanding lyrics and wonderful harmonies. I am a 40 something who loves classic rock, metal and hip hop.

I love the DM3 and own all of their releases and have seen them in concert many times. The problem with this recording is the low quality of its fidelity. I bought the CD and it sounds like an MP3 quality recording. I don't know on what type of unit this was recorded, but it certainly is not CD quality in my opinion. Yeah, I like the music being played, but the low quality somewhat ruins, for me, listening to to this CD. Yes, I would be considered an "audiophile" if judged by my stereo system and the limitations of this recording are 'clearly' evident. It's a crappy recording. Period.

One of my favorite groups, a decent recording of a live show. It keeps all the songs fresh and new. It makes me listen "for good again"
